Unsold cars around the world

Nice pictures.

Imagine if all that stock was actually cash earning interest.
I still don't quite understand why new cars are not manufactured by customer order only.

That's a LOT of cars sitting and depreciating...

The car industry didn't adapted to the markets, and they keep up pumping out cars.

What we have here is a glut of cars, and people not willing to buy cars because they are too expensive.

What does a salesperson do when he have overstock? Lower the price to get rid of old stock!

But, yes, the car industry'll be in a nice, deep hole... and bailouts from guavamints won't work (or help here), instead bailouts will only exacerbate the issue and postpone the inevitable.

Will be interesting to see what happens next.

I'm really interested to know what will happen to all those unsold cars......

Me too.

Logically it would be best to cut the price by 50% (or 80%) to get rid of old stock.

But, being tight-fisted misers, they won't cut the cars prices...

So... if they don't want to cut their prices, then they must suffer.

As stoke said, it would've been better if they produced per customer order.

They should've dropped the prices a long time ago...I'm glad the SA government is in no position to be bailing out the local subsidiaries of foreign entities.

On the JHB International/Jan Smuts highway (when passing Tembisa) you can see lots of cars in storage as well... lots and lots of them.

The storage area was enlarged recently to allow more vehicles to be stored...

I don't feel sorry for the car industry, but for their employers I do feel, as many will lose their jobs.

The problem with per customer order is customers don't want to wait for their cars!!!

They want their car as in yesterday they don't want to wait for the factory to make the car (+- 1month cause its gotta be transported across sea sometimes too)

@ fooz - VW have had plans to "remake" that specific Kombi... but what with the current economic disaster, it might never happen.

@ peder - die vet katte is NIE gewillig om hulle salarisse te besnoei nie, MAAR hulle is gewillig om hulle werkers af te dank dat hulle nie nodig het om dit te doen nie. Maak my

I don't feel sorry for the manufacturers as libs said only the people working in the factories...

I wonder how people like GWM and all those "unknown" car brands are doing? I'd imagine better because their cars are cheaper?

USA pc manufacturer (Dell) sells its computers directly to consumers ofter the customer has ordered a pc, I don't know how long the customer waits for the pc or how long it takes Dell to make and deliver the pc to the customer, but I'm sure it's not "yesterday", my guess is that it could take a week. I am also sure that Dell customers are used to waiting a few days or maybe even weeks before they get their computers and I am sure that can happen in the car industry. I am sure a customer who wants to purchase a car will get used to waiting a month or so for his/her car to e delivered.

So I therefore think that per customer order will work in the end, but it will take time for customers around the world to get used to waiting for their cars.

This just show how fsked up things really are.

If you have cars you can't sell then lower the price. But no the companies want their insane asking prices to satisfy their greed so they go to the government and ask for "financial help".

So basically what they're saying is " Buy our cars at these prices or we'll just take your cash in the form of help from the government funded by your taxes ".

Put simply it's extortion
