"The sharp decline in consumer and business spending on new vehicles in SA is a reflection of the high interest rate environment compounded by the inability of many customers currently to obtain vehicle finance."

Naamsa said that any improvement in the domestic environment remains dependent on a revival of consumer expenditure, aggressive interest rate reductions and fiscal stimulation.

*cough* not going to happen soon... sorry to burst your bubble.

They should send these guys on an Economics course.

Drop your prices already and you will sell more cars, you idiots.

Are Naamsa, Telkom and the RIAA the same company?

Because they just don't want to drop their prices... :D

Something which I've thought of just now.

They keep record of vehicle sales and production every month. Then why didn't they started to throttle production when it became apparent that sales was slowing down?

Lol we still with the letter X on our numberplates in JHB the province that buys the most cars!!
Government introduced new plates early 2008 and we still not there yet...

Crazy!

Dropping prices = Job losses = Strikes = Pressure on Governmint for Bailout Packages = Smiling Upper Management.

I say: Ban all bailout packages!

When it comes to financial institutions, maybe not. Too many people will seriously be affected. But for manufacturers I agree. If the global market changes and your company can't adapt, then you can't participate. just because you are a big company, does not mean you can not fold. Are we to be held liable, no at ransom for all eternity for companies that can't cope with what every person on earth has to? Why must my tax money be put into something that I can't even afford to purchase ?

And I ask - why must my tax money go towards paying somebody else's luxury expenses when they don't want to let go of their luxuries?

Shouldnt the manufacturer countries help with the bail outs?
I think if Nissan SA is going down then Nissan INt to pump some money in....

Or am I looking at it all wrong?

If they don't bailed out, we'll be buying these cars next to nothing. I see buying a brand new Navara for just R40K.

...and then we all wake up from the dream:D. Maybe at production cost but i doubt R40k!

Makes one wonder why manufacturers are still producing new models and having car shows...
I drove past Birchmores the other day :eek: Auctioneers are having a field day...

Wonder if this will be the nail in the coffin of F1:(

A bailout with conditions. Maximum 3 model ranges per make, max. 3 engines per model range. No facelift stuff, a model range can only be upgraded every 2 years.
Management to worker salary ratio must not exceed 50. Bonuses can only be paid for extraordinary performances in the lower salary ranges.
There will be NO BONUS just for appearing at the workplace.
