On ADSL for local you get on average pings of around 40ms. Equivalent to LAN Gaming. You rarely feel any loag. On overseas servers you often are lagged and the pings mainly avg from 200 - 400 ms.

Oversea's is TERRIBLE!!!!! Local is lekker, except when they have the occasional problem and u get choke. Mainly though it is good locally. It is a b1tch though cause u go staight onto the Saix backbone and the dumb ass mo-fo's still count it towards ur cap. Come on, I hate Telkom!!! Why can't u at least make gaming a free service and not count it!

There is no peace without war!!!

How about the unshaped account?

how does that work out for oversees gaming?

Unshaped accounts works very well, mainly using mine for MMORPGs but I do play the occasional CS:S on an International server with pings ranging from 200-300ms. Unlike shaped accounts your latency doesn't jump all over the place it is very consistent.

I just got an unshaped account to test international gaming. Basically EQ2. Obviously I won't have EQ2 for about a week still so I haven't tested it yet. BUT, unshaped pings are definitely the same / slightly better than ISDN. Played on some DoD servers with pings ranging from about 200 - 300 depending on the server. Also got the same sort of thing playing SW Battlefront (That we should get for SAIX).

Doing normal pings, looks something like this (to Camelot Herald - this was always our standard ping test when playing Dark Age of Camelot)::

Shaped

Pinging camelotherald.com [208.254.7.194] with 32 bytes of data:

Ping statistics for 208.254.7.194:
Packets: Sent = 10, Received = 10, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 467ms, Maximum = 531ms, Average = 488ms

Unshaped

Pinging camelotherald.com [208.254.7.194] with 32 bytes of data:

Ping statistics for 208.254.7.194:
Packets: Sent = 10, Received = 10, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 265ms, Maximum = 275ms, Average = 266ms

Significant difference for a MMORPG gamer.

I'll let y'all know how it works out with EQ2.
