West Bank, East London, fried by 380volts.

Ah Lovely cable theft...

Had the same problem in our area once or twice...

If they steal a certain live/neutral cable it causes 380v to go through your house...

We lost a few things too the last time we had a power jump like that... just never had things short out like that which is quite saddening...

yeah, the neutral cable
these guys obviously know what they are doing

I wish they would rather take one of the live cables :D

I doubt it I think they just take whatever cable...

Its saddening actually... we have a weekly outage in our area due to the cable theft...

Had that here too (Randburg), they were nicking cables from our suburb literally every other day. Got so bad that City Power hired a private security company to patrol at night... no thefts since :)

Wow this is frightening

Just sitting watching T.V and next thing everything goes up in flames  Even worse come home to find your house burnt down

Wow! I'd ***** myself if that had to happen to me.

I'd imagine those red lightning plugs would make a differance?

Would thos surge protecter plugs i have behind my PC and TV protect me against something like this?

it should...

If they reach a certain voltage they short out... thereby causeing the Earth leakage on the DB board to trip (if your DB works properly)

Earth leakage was replaced when i moved in last month so should be working fine. Wonder if it would be worthhile to get surge protector plugs for my other expensive appliances like dishwasher and fridge?

as far as i know as long as one trips the rest trip...

I am not sure. i guess in the long run it will be best.
