Old Firmware ? and also Sentech, You Suck !

It seems the unrealza firmware download was removed - can't blame whoever maintains it !

Anyone got a copy of the 4.2.1.8 firmware ?
I stupidly upgraded to the latest and have had issues with PPPoE which I can only attribute to the latest firmware because everything was fine before upgrading.

It also has an irritating reset problem in that you have to push the button twice or more to get the modem to start searching for a tower.

Anyway, I think I may be at the end of my tether here - yep, moan moan moan - **** service for the 9th day, or should I say, even sh1tter than the usual ****. Sub-standard modem speeds.

I'm going to research :-

1. How much it costs to install a landline
2. How long it takes
3. How much ADSL install costs
4. How long it takes

IOW, I'm going to make a deal with the devil [:D]

Hi bb_matt. Here's that info from the devil (i also made a deal with the devil) :) All the costs are estimated (don't have to the cent - but costs are accurate)

1. R230 for a landline
3. R405 for ADSL installation
2. Between a week to 3 weeks (if your lucky) for both. They do it at the same time.

Extra stuff:
R215 for account (3 gig)
R449 for ADSL rental (HOMEDSL - 384)
R88 for line rental (yes, they don't mention this!!)
TOTAL: R752

R100 saving on MyWireless 256 and its faster!!!

This is not advertising, this is sharing the info. Don;t have any conenction with telkom whatsoever! :)

I reckon I'll get onto Sentech today in connection with terminating my contract by months end - that should be enough time to get ADSL installed.

Of course, it all depends if my clients actually pay me on time this month whether I can afford it ! [:)]

When I have a good month bucks wise, I guess I could buy another 3gig if I need to.

I have to go ahead with this now - Sucktech have finally pushed me to dump MyCareLess !

Completely OT: Do you know of a little app that I can use on a server to check how much traffic (bytes wise) goes through it (network and internet connection) over a period of time? A name o something, I know of netlimiter but I need something smaller? It's a Windows 2000 server.

Other than that, I'm not sure if products like Smoothwall or IPCop have that kind of functionality - possible that there may be some user created plugins that could check traffic ?

.....er, don't forget the hardware. A ADSL router for around R750, or a Cheapie USB modem for about R300.

Cheers oaks - I'll be following up each day with Sentech.

Problem is I have to know whether cancellation has been approved before applying for ADSL and I don't know what the timing will be on that. From what I've read here, immediately, weeks, never or pray !

To be honest, I fully expect to be offline at home for 2 weeks should this cancellation go through - I'll resign myself to that now, just so the pain isn't so bad when it happens ! [:)]

bb_matt, I was pleasantly surprised at the speed of Telkom. 3 days to approve and 4 days to install. However I DID already have a landline...

I've got the latest one - I actually just want to go back to the original firmware as I never experienced PPPoE problems with that and the new firmware does bugger all to fix the **** speeds.
 
bb_matt- they're ~1.44MB and, per your request, I'll send 4218. And for the sake of being totally correct, so far it's been my experience that modems come with 4.2.1.1 software out of the box.. until I got 5.0.1.62 I would always upgrade to 4.2.1.8 as the best stable version.

Anyhow- mail inbound.

4.2.1.8 sounds good, hopefully it'll fix my PPPoE problem, but more hopefully, I'll be done with Sentech by months end ! [:)]

Never guess what speed I'm d/ling that attachement from Gmail at - 2kbps - Lekker eh ? - life in the broadband fast lane, NOT.
