This might be old news for some but in the light of the SA Car of the year being announced recently (well done Honda!) perhaps lets vee dubba rubba some more slat in the wounds with the European car of the year.

That brings the total Car of the Year awards to 3 for Opel while their national rival Volkswagen has so far only managed 1 so far (the Golf Mk3 in 1992).

The new Opel Insignia is a pretty good achievement for GMs only profitable marquee and it features safety features so advanced that even Mercedes is copying some of them into their new E-Class (the cars ability to read roadsigns).

Sadly big Opels only do mediocre to well in Europe so don't expect to see them here in Africa at all. You might find them in a slightly modified US-guise under the Saturn brand, depending on how well the Opel/GM marriage does.

All that remains to be said is vee dubba dubba sucks yeah :p

Opel Germany not getting bail out from German government. Why would they ask for a bail out if not in trouble? Was on the German news this weekend.

They won't get a bail because GM will just take the cash to the US. Remember, GM still owes Opel about 1million euros. Also, why bother bailing out Opel, rather just let someone buy out the brand.

I'm sure it is; certainly looks as big as a tent. :D I think you meant marque.

Why all the VW bashing? They are able to buy Opel with their pocket change. Which car won this year's Dakar rally, eh? Le Mans 24 hour race consecutively for 5 years? (OK, it's Audi, but still part of the VW stable)

Where are they in the only motorsport that matter, F1?

VW is weak, boring, unrealiable and way to over rated. You can check out every part of the mybb forum and you will find I love pouncing on overrated crap like iPhones, VWs, SEACOM, ADSL and also the oxygen we breath. That reminds me, need to start that thread...

Besides, if vee dubba dubba do yeah is so good how do you explain their poor car of the year track record? Cause ultimately motorsport if for the fun, in real live other accolades mean a lot more.

How exactly is that? F1 cars are not remotely like passenger cars. I'd rather compare under real-world conditions.

It's good that they're boring - allows people with common sense to buy them. Peered into a VW's boot recently? Do yourself a favour and compare.

Hmm, Chinese cars must be reliable since you never hear of one breaking down...maybe because there are so few on our roads. At least (to my knowledge) modern VWs have never been recalled due to safety-critical faults. Remember the Corsa seats that launched you out the front window in the event of a collision?

I know, and I totally agree with you on the iPhone issue. As for the other items, I think you've been jumping around trying to get better WiFi/3G reception for too long now. Oh yes, you should try pure ozone instead of oxygen.

Besides, if vee dubba dubba do yeah is so good how do you explain their poor car of the year track record.
Well, let's see, maybe because Honda is better?

You do know that typing the company's name is faster than typing that ooga-booga crap every time, right? Say it with me now:
V-O-L-K-S-W-A-G-E-N

It will take you a while to learn it, but you'll get it eventually.

I agree, Veyrons are terribly boring. And the G5 GTI didn't win any awards when it was released.

It's more a case of COTY being overrated. Quick question - if Barry Ronge praises a movie, will you go out and watch it just because he said so?

And if VW is so lame, then why did other manufacturers rush out to improve the build quality on their cars after the G4 was released?

The only thing I dislike about VW are Citi Golfs, so I won't argue when people tear into those pieces of crap.

Other manufacturers ran out to improve the perceived quality of their cars. Soft touch plastics sell cars.

Nice1 - thats sharp :p

F1 is the ultimate showcase where manufacturers can show off their true technological innovation. Call it their vorsprung durch technik - although those that lay claim to such a slogan are all but present...

Less space than my Astra and about the same as you find in an Accent. Less than what you find in a Corolla.

Remember the Corsa seats that launched you out the front window in the event of a collision?
No I don't but that explains why the new Corsa D is such a safe car. Beats the rest even in terms of pedestrian safety.

Vee dubba dubba doo yeah - cause thats the same as Freds car. Also cause it sounds cool when you say veedubbas fo suckas.

Building a super car and selling it at an 1/8th of the price has got nothing to do with this.

Well, selling sh1ti to South Africans is VWs way of showing us what they think of us. Me speading the hate is my way of showing South Africans what I think of an evil nazi company.
