Apparently Sentech has the biggest user base in the world on this system... HAS or HAD not sure.

Hmm .. well if it's true that one user on the '2MBit package' downloaded '220GB international in one month', then I *wish* Sentech was that flawed! Clearly the technology at least CAN deliver far more than MW is delivering - even if the NZ case somehow represents the upper limit of the technology, we haven't reached that upper limit yet. And of course since we know local speeds are good on MW, even ST's current infrastructure would be able to provide everyone on MW with nearly full package speeds if more international BW were purchased .. I'd be happy with that.
Still, they say users there are complaining that it's "slower than dial-up" most the time, which has a distinctly familiar and well-worn ring to it. It's hard to say though why this is without knowing how many users they have (surely it must be more than ST, I would guess?), how bad it really is, what their contention ratios etc. are. Also sounds like they have lots of users on one extended-range mode tower, rather than lots of 7km-range towers like ST. I also somehow get the impression of a similar management attitude to the ST managers .. I think ic is probably right that "Wired Country & Sentech are sharing pages out of the same book".

I would imagine dialup refers to 56k there as well.

I bet they too have MyWiredCountry website where people bit.ch and moan about poor service... Also at a current rate of R4.66 to the australian $$$ (i assume NZ uses the same currency?), 120$ for a 2MBit line works out to be: R559! Telkom, Sentech and Iburst i really hope you see this
