Woes with legalising Office 2007

About two years ago we bought a copy of Office 2007, and conned into thinking it was genuine. OK so I was stupid...:( The Orient is better known for its beautiful b*tches, oops sorry beaches, heavenly massages and other "little" delicacies...;)

When MS finally "caught up with us" via this annoying little popup in the taskbar, we did the right thing and contacted Uncle Bill @ Redmont.

They were too happy to offer us a genuine product, and quoted us a price of R1981 incl. VAT for the Office 2007 Small Business Edition.

I was directed to a website where the actual purchase was to be made. Low and behold, the price quoted was R4999. Hmmmm, phoned the USA again, again the sweet Gates Girl confirmed R1981. Promised to look into it, that was last week. Bill and his merry men went all quiet on me.

Anybody had similar experiences? Can someone help here, anyone from MS South Africa lurking in the myADSL shadows?

Or what is the best deal in town on "new" software?

Is it true that the Small Business Edition can be installed on up to 3 different machines?

Need help please...

Home & Student can be installed on 3 PCs. The catalogue I am looking at doesn't say anything about this for the business editions.
 
I can't say I've ever had this experience but paying R4999 for an Office suite is just unbelievable. I have never heard of it being so expensive.

Seeing as you already have an Office 2007 Small Business Edition disk, you should be able to just purchase a license. Sybaritic sells these and apparently, the retail version with the disk IS actually that expensive! For the complete retail Small Business office, it is around R5000 and for the upgrade, it's about R2000 - R2500 cheaper!
 
We have been using Office 2007 (illegally according to MS) for close on two years. To look at things like OpenOffice would be disastrous to her now, as she got quite used to the programs offered in Office 2007.

Buying a license only sounds like an idea. I am sure one can download a trial copy of Small Business and then using the purchased license key, right? I am sure my media is well outdated and now that I know it is pirated, might even contain spyware so I would like to get up-to-date genuine media, but surely cannot pay R4999...

I read on another forum a post by a Microsoft MVP that you may install any Office 2007 product on a desktop and a portable device, provided both are owned by one person.

Will check Sybaritic now.

I bought a retail version of Office "Home & Student" for +- R599 a while back, all its missing is Outlook+ and Publisher 2007 plus it's licensed for 3 PC's

... it also puts up a little message at the top saying "not for commercial use" or something.

MS being very petty!
 
It was @ Makro of all places (currently 799 until 13/4) , and yes the title bar says Microsoft xxxxx Non commercial use, where xxxxx is Word/Excel etc.

If you shop around you probably will find it cheaper elsewhere.

Word has been improved nicely, but it takes getting used to.
Excel is still a bit shakey.

The best, most stable Office version ever built, but why struggle if the 'Lino' freaks can get Open Office for mahala? :rolleyes:

...and tweaking your registry is not illegal - after all, you're not altering the software in any way! ;)
