I thought i would mention this game i got the other day. Must b one of the best RTS games i've played. Its pretty awesome, and the animation rocks. Haven't played multi yet, but the campaign is excellent, except for the fact that u can only play 1 of the 4 races.
Its actually the first Warhammer pc game to get good ratings, excellent ratings in fact.
Finally, a game that rivals Warcraft.

It's a poor RTS.....
Whoever's got the biggest army, will win. There's no micro management.
Warcraft has much more strategy to it. DOW is a fun game..in the beginning, then it starts to suck.
That's my 2c :p

Yes, nonroker, after playing it 4 awhile, i tend to agree with you. My initial comments were a bit premature. The biggest army usually wins, and the space marines are definitely too strong.
Having said that, i'm still enjoying it big time, the animation is damn good, while not sucking all your pc resource.
The story is pretty poor, just land on a planet & kill everything that moves.
So, while i'm now sure its never going to have staying power, its still enjoyable, which is not a bad reason to play.

WTH you guys???
DoW is one of the best RTS's out there and has won numerous awards for it. Also I don't think you guys have played Warhammer 40k (table-top version) so you don't know how good it really is.

Dom, not everyone enjoys the same games. As i stated earlier, initially i enjoyed it, then it tapered off a bit for me. Became a bit samish. However, i might grow into it.
Lets take another example.
Warcraft3: I bought it the day it launched & have played it almost nightly since then. I've never gotten bored with it. 4 completely unique & well-balanced races. Online options for 1v1 2v2 3v3 4v4 or free4all. An awesome add-on.
Just when u think you've mastered 1 of the races, they add a major patch, add new heroes, change things round a bit. Games like this set benchmarks for gaming. I'll have to play DOW for quite a while b4 i'll compare it favorably with WC3.

lol, ok, i'll take your word 4 it Allu, haven't played the bored game :)
However, warhammer's online mp is proving quite a hit, not played it as much as i'd like yet.
At the moment, my game time is taken WC3, still, and Call of Duty UO.
The only other game i'm playing reasonably regularly is the Spellforce addon, Breath of Winter, which i recommend to both rpg & rts fans, and they've improved quite a bit on the original, especially on mp, though its still not all that great. They now have a freeplay mode too, where a few players can play the comp.
I uninstalled my copy of HL2 in a fit of rage, a combination of regular crashes and steam's general irritability, i'll reinstall once i upgrade my graph card.

I must say I enjoy DOW, its got some great graphics/animations and the war paint is a awesome feature. The only thing that kills me is the fact that anyone with a giant army can win, I find that when playing multiplayer everyone ends up being space marines or chaos cause the other teams are just not as strong, although the orcs can be used well and become pretty useful.

Dawn Of War is a good game, but i still say the best strategy game of all time is Starcraft, it's absolutely brilliant. Technologically speaking DOW is much "cooler" than broodwars but game play is not nearly a comparison.
