My boet in gauteng went 2 the Joburg Easter Festival formely known as the Grand Rand Show with his girlfriend this weekend and saw a stall with Laptops on sale , so he ask the guy what co he was representing , the oke told him that he was frm rectron n gave the details 4 JHB branch , so my ? are they going direct?

Well unless the stand was branded Rectron I'm pretty sure the stall owner was probably just a run of the mill reseller?

Thats something that drives me crazy with distributors. I don't believe they should sell to the general public. Just like Esquire are doing in this forum. I know it's good for the forum members but it makes life far more difficult for the resellers.

I have heard reports if you go into rectron with cash they will sell you stuff. Abe when you have a place like zones.co.za, resellers may as well buy from them because they are cheaper on many items.

I do recall that many years ago Rectron did in fact have public outlets. I recall there was one in La Lucia Mall. I'm sure that is no longer the case though.

they are not allowed to and have a policy to protect their resellers.

....I think that's why they have a password, so not everyone can see how much extra resellers are charging

Yes but then everyone on forums just happily hands out the priciest :p so how does this help.

It's standard practise at trade shows etc. Everybody sells to anybody to make a buck.

Price savvy pc geeks will always get the best deal on hardware no matter what. If it means opening your own account or using a friend’s account we won't go and spend that extra cash going through a reseller. But there are a lot of people out there who have no idea about this, and pay resellers prices, which is perfectly fair. You win some you loose some.
