A little too late though. Zuma has already got off the hook so even if the tapes were obtained illegally, it would be a tall ask for the NPA to re-prosecute Zuma...especially when he is president. Wait - are you allowed to criminally charge the SA President?

After Zuma becomes president in next few weeks, the issue on how Michael Hulley got the tapes will dissolve away!

• Who is the private intelligence operative “Luciano” that McCarthy corresponded with, and on whose behalf was “Luciano” communicating with the former Scorpions boss?

• Why were the transcripts not presented to Ngcuka, McCarthy and Khumalo for comment before they were made public by the NPA on Monday?

• Who was “the man” McCarthy met after the Polokwane conference to plan a “comeback strategy”, as disclosed in a voicemail to the Special Investigating Unit’s deputy head, Faiek Davids?

• Who is “the big man” at “Shell House” Ngcuka was to meet after the ANC’s provincial conferences showed overwhelming support for Zuma?

If Zuma will have the power to pardon Shaik from prison (he once said during an interview that he would pardon shaik from jail once he is president) then I am sure he will have the power to pardon himself if he went to court and found guilty. So I think at the end of the day, Zuma will never pay for his crimes. And can someone please tell me why aren't other people implicated in the arms deal being procecuted? People like Hlongwane and them....

Interesting thing, I read on IOL, that the NPA does not actually have the tapes, they only have a transcript that was supplied by the NIA. Now tell me this, how can you drop charges, based on evidence that you don't have? Oh sorry, my bad, evidence that is based on a government agency's interpretation

On this week's 3rd Degree and 3rd Degree Plus, Deborah had Tlali Tlali (NPA), Sam (COPE), Hellen (DA) and Jessie (ANC).

It confirmed that

- The NPA does not have the tapes

- Mpshe never listened to the tapes

- Mpshe directed two of his deputy directors to go listen to the tapes at Zuma's lawyers office in Durban

- They took notes on selective matters they deemed important and Mpshe made his decision based on those transcripts

NPA alleges that NIA confirmed the transcripts

Oh my word, are you serious? Wow, wow indeed. So what's the next step? Will Zuma be charged again or is he a free man forever. Mpshe is an acting head, so Zuma as president of SA still has to choose a new head of the NPA after the elections and that person will not charge Zuma again.

I still think Mpshe was somehow involved in this whole saga and was blackmailed.

I think both him and Fraser wants a comfy chair in the new world order

dude, its just African style. Europeans came here and built up infrastructure, education etc, black governmunt take over and they just **** it up.
Same story in Zim, ditto Mozambique. You want to see SA in a few yrs, take a drive north over the border.

Not that they like it that way. They just don't have the abbillity to do it otherwise.

But I agree, this country is becoming a banana republic.

The only thing we can learn from recent events is that the ANC=Government is run by certain factions within the ANC, which in turn control certain parts of government.

Just like the Zumanians are accusing Mbeki of manipulating the NPA, they (Zuma inc) obviously control the intelligence agencies.

Why were Mcarthy and Nqcuka under surveilance and who authorised it?

This was done to serve the interest of JZ otherwise they would have made this evidence available to the NPA. After all, by settling the matter internally they would have saved the government a lot of embarrasment.

And all the while we poor f...s are financing everything. These guys just wasted (stolen actually) millions of our tax-Rands.
