Hi folks

The new MyADSL Website (News Section) is ready for testing. You can view it at http://www.mybroadband.co.za/nephp/

I have tried my best to ensure proper display and functioning in IE and Firefox, but some bugs might have slipped through. If you discover a problem please let me know… I hope you enjoy the new look and your comments/feedback will be of great value. If you are happy with it I will set it as the default site…

Regards,

RPM

My first impression - wow, I love it. It looks very professional. I'll let you know if I come across any bugs.

Ditto to previous comments - I do have one criticism, though. Topicality of news is closely related to its timing, for which purpose date/time is critical. Suggest that all news articles have publication dates/times on the original source/media, as well as on the news forum. Not that most of the articles have become really stale - their topicality usually remains relevant months/years after publication, due to the tardy/non response of the players in the ZA space, most notably the officious turds in Telkrap...

Looks great!

But dates are needed.

One more thing: PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Setup a RSS feed for the news stories

One more more thing: IMHO the white background is a bit harsh on the eyes.

Thanks again RPM you are doing broadband users in ZA a great service!

Hi guys

Thanks for the feedback so far. I will try to implement the suggested changes as soon as possible… Might only be in the new year (we are receiving guests tomorrow which might limit the time I spend in front of the computer). If you guys have any more suggestions please keep them coming!

Newsfeed for MyADSL: Please test!

Hi guys

After a nice few hours it seems that the news feed is working. I have tested it in a few newsreaders, but it will be great if you can also test it in whatever software you will view it. I have a few problems with proper XML display in IE (Firefox worked with whatever I fed it :-)...please let me know if the XML displays correctly in your browser. Please give your feedback or bug reports.

Nope, cannot access last link with any browser.

Firefox does however show code. IE doesn't do anything. This is what FF shows...

Hi Ant

The browser should show the XML 'code'...XML need XSLT to display like HTML. My concern is that IE would not show the XML. This is something strange...when I change the <channel> tag to something else it usually show...somebody have any idea what the problem might be?

According to http://feedvalidator.org/ it's dodgy:

;)

Hi IC

I will definitely take a few days off, but I usually enjoy MyADSL more than most conversations :-)

I had a look at the problems according to 'feedvalidator' and I have no idea why these errors are given. The URL is fine (I think it does not like the '.co.za') and the type is 'XML-RSS'... I have changed the feed slightly but there still seems to be problems with IE... It seems to work in most feed viewer software, but if anybody has a problem with a specific feed viewer please let me know...I will hack on :-)

Regards,

RPM

Hi IC

Thanks for the feedback.

I have tried previously to drop the /nephp/, but it still gave me a problem (this time with '.co.za'. I therefore think it might be with the domain details... It does however seem to work in most newsreaders so I will leave it for now :-)

Regards,

RPM

Hi IC

Well spotted! Fixed it and the problem vanished :-)
