PC monitor to rival IMAC?

I work with a 20" aluminum IMAC and the screen quality on it is just phenomenal. I think I haven't seen a PC screen to match it for clarity. So is there a PC monitor which can equal the mac?
 
I think some of the Dell monitors use the same panels as Apple and match them for clarity etc...... but its prob the High end ones, not the 20"'s
 
They've probably got a high response time too so gaming is a no no, but for general design work they're perfect.
 
Because most of LCD we get in SA are made with TN panels. If we ever get LCD made with MVA, IPS panels.......
 
You will have to find professional monitors that use high-end panels. I know that there are some Dells, HP, Eizo, Lacie, NEC, Samsung & other brands people rave about.

Best to look at reviews and visit dedicated LCD techhead sites. Also look at sites visited by people specialising in desktop graphics/video/photo as a profession.

I mean it's incredible. I have it sitting next to me.... my LG Fantasy I thought was pretty good quality. But it pales next to the Imac screen.

And people still don't understand that the price tag of the imacs are pretty good considering the good screen you get with it.
 
It's probably an 8bit panel in the iMac (I would imagine). You need to get a similar 8bit panel and you'll be set. Dell and HP make great panels, so yeah look in that direction.

I run a 30inch Dell here with incredibly nice quality, also full 8bit IPS panel.
Look for MVA, PVA or IPS panels. LED backlight is optional as extended gamut
CCFL is just as good.

very interesting though, just shows that the big brands are not always what they seem, your Samsung could be an AUO.
AUO provides panels for several leading LCD manufacturers, including Samsung, BenQ, Apple, and ViewSonic.

How much would a 20" (22" ect.) Mac screen like yours go for these days?

I know that the lg 24" LCD will wip the clarity on the mac and with a contrast ratio of 30000:1 Now thats supreme clarity. It also supports HD movies.

Price range about R6000.00

what is the contrast ratio on the MAC?
 
It's not all about the contrast ratio or specs Nokkie, the actual panels that a screen is made of is the determining factor for picture quality.
