Another international star dies on our roads

Disgusting and terribly sad. Though one only has to look at the lawlessness and road death numbers :mad:

WTF!? How did SA fail him (and itself for that matter)!? It was a car accident - they occur all over the world.

Once again cheaping the persons death by using it as a tool to attack South Africa.

Marine1 can be controversial at times but he made no mention of blaming South Africa for it.
So you don't need too.

I'v lost many friends in car accidents and it was either their own fault or someone elses.

So next time you decide to drive whilst drunk and get into an accident don't blame SA,blame your stupid self.
 
This is a very sad tragedy. It really is just so sick. Especially the fact that more people died when a second car later crashed into a police van parked along the road at the original accident scene... Isn't it funny how many similar unrelated events usually happen at the same time? Last week an Australian rugby player also died in a car accident in SA. When before that did a famous Australian die on our roads? I think it never happened before. Now twice in 1 week...

To put the rugby stars death into perspective, He was apparently absolutely drunk and stumbling around outside a club which just happens to be on a fairly busy road in Durban.... again, could have happened pretty much anywhere.

The work that he did at promoting the AFL (australian football), part of which he was in SA to help with acadamy and film to promote the AFL to young S. Africans (better to occupy sport than idle hands no? life lessons learnt through sport? no?) .. sorry that didnt measure up to your "international star" status.
Someone who went out of their way to help others of their own initiative. I would say the world is somewhat less without a person like this..

Could've happend anywhere? The sad truth about SA roads, but when was the last time you drove 60km/h or only 120km/h on the highway? If you do, good stuff, but you would have to admit that is in the minority? Disobeying the speed limit is breaking the law, much more of which is more common in SA than elsewhere I would suggest..

Hardly a big deal. Very sad story, but it happens all the time all over the world. This doesn't reflect badly on SA in any way, and I don't really see the point of this thread. The country and its people have nothing to do with this, it was a sad accident and a risk you take whenever going to another country. He was also hardly an international star. Condolences to the family, it's never easy to lose a loved one. In my opinion this thread is a bit disrespectful in that it takes the focus off the tragedy that happened and tries to turn it into an anti-South African smear campaign for selfish reasons.
 
Is it me or have metro cops dissappeared completely between PTA and JHB on the N1 for the past few weeks. I know some of you may say good riddance or "don't miss em" but drivers have gotten worse. Saw a couple of bikes, taxis and normal sedans driving over the road works which clearly have yellow markings / stands on the freeway.

Yea nobody even knows what happened. Do you think people in other countries all obey the speed limit or is South africa the only country in the world that has a problem with speeding? Does the rest of the world need Camera's? because the way you are talking only South Africans know how to travel over the speed limit.

i dont think anywhere is 100% perfect. i'd say the 80/20 rule applies, though most overseas countries i have experienced 80% obey with 20% not, whereas SA +-20% obey and +-80% drive over 60km/h or over 120km/h on highway.. the number of cars with no licence plate, and my worst, when traffic then just form another lane in the emergency lane, who cares if eveyone else waits in a queue.. total lack of respect for rules (80 / 20) by far .. when was the last time you / anyone you know travelled the entire way to work without once going over the speedlimit / seeing someone going over the speedlimit?
Have you seen the difference an impact at 60km/h makes vs 65km/h? - you'd be surprised.

So SA doesn't have an exceptionally high road death toll? Are those traffic officials making it up just so that they can make more money from motorists? Oh, and the high crime rate is also just propaganda - it's the same everywhere in the world...

Sometimes I wish I could live in a constant state of denial. It sounds to me like the "good life". Maybe I should start convincing myself that those damn beggars have more money in the bank than I have. Oh, and there are beggars all over the world, so why should I worry about beggars in SA?
