. . . that if you vote for them, they would re-open the investigation into the arms deal, would it sway you?

it might but then again some of them may have been on the take when it came to the arms deal.

If they said that they had concrete evidence that would put a whole lot of corrupt politicians in jail, I wouldn't just vote for them, I'd even donate them some money.

They could say what they wanted, I wouldn't vote for them, because they are the corrupt old guard, and what political party is going to promise a course of action that will put a large number of its upper echelons behind bars?

Proberbly not, unless I see the evidence myself.

What one says and does is two different things. Cope and ANC are the same animal, just a different wart!

PURELY HYPOTHETICAL:
What do you guys think the DA will do and how will they act, should they ever become the ruling party ?

Will there be corruption, abuse of power, etc?

Of course there will be..

But I expect there to be some semblance of actually trying to get the job done, since they'll hopefully realise that getting the job done properly, means more money coming in, therefore more money that they can take a cut of, and it'll be less noticeable.

No, how would my one vote give them the power to reopen that investigation?

So you're saying it is OK to steal, as long as it is in a 'sustainable' manner?

No I'm not saying its ok in the slightest..

I'm being realistic and saying that no matter what political party is in power, there will be corruption and power abuse... its whether it happens at the expense of everything else (like now), or kind of as a behind the scenes thing...

There would be spurts of corruption in the DA, howerer, the DA has not grown a culture of "we will protect you" therefore, the corrupt will be rooted out pretty damn quick.

It's the ANC's culture of "we will protect any ANC member" that has helped corruption to prosper.

Remember I am not saying you guys are wrong; I am just playing devil's advocate :)

Have you read up on the effects of power on the human psyche?

Yeah I have... the joys of having a shrink in the family.... :)

I think ultimately a DA led country would prosper ALOT more than the ANC led country has to this point, or ever could for that matter.

I wish I could regale you on the joys of having a politician in the family, but 'joy' is not a good choice of words :D

Because of the family member, I have met and seen my fair share of politician types. I take a dim view of them all. Sooner or later, they succumb to the evil temptations of power.

I guess I am a black-or-white person - you are either corrupt, or you're not. The degree to which you are corrupt is no consolation to me at all.

Nah, joy would not be a good choice in terms of a politician :D

Internally, I'm also a black-and-white type person.. and ideally government should be filled with competent, non-corrupt people. But I am also a realist and know that this will never be the case, so in a way I do the whole lesser of two evils thing.

This is South Africa, corruption and abuse of power is the national sport.

As for Cope, hell no. You know how much it cost me to get the NPA to drop the charges? If they decide to reopen the thing, I'd have lost all the money I made from the arms dea-...oops.
