half life 2 instal on Sentech = torture

I got Steam to authenticate the cd-key within 20min on ADSL....it was on that Friday afternoon though (same week as HL2 was released)
 
The authentication isn't what takes time. Once that's done, you'll get like TEN "Preparing to play Half Life 2" screens while it installs"

I wanted to go out of my mind! :)
 
Steam speed varies. Unfortunately it's worst when you try to get something just as it's been released. It took 2.5 hours to unlock HL2. I was on leave at the time though, so I tried it at the exact time it was released.
 
It took me 5 hours via Sentech back in November - I just left it running.

Even now, on ADSL, sometimes when it updates steam and other games, it can be 20 minutes before I can play.
 
Yep, took me about three hours back in November too.
Also shortly after release date.

Steam servers probably a bit overloaded

There's a Steam content server at SAIX. Problem is that Steam hardly ever uses it. Anyone else have better luck?
