Well i do not think businesses took on xp for atleast a year either due to compatibility issues but they did eventually. So i would imagine it will be the same here, the difference though is windows 7 will come out the box with drivers for everything unlike xp and vista as vista has setup a good base for windows 7 to work from.

Peter, you on a roll today? Kicking Vista and Win7 in the teeth all the way! I think its kinda obvious in the international financial climate we face, that all businesses will no doubtly want to curb any additional costs. Dont you? I know Win7 is good, I run a business too, and I can't justify the cost either. But lets not slate it just yet...

I feel sorry for MS and other major industries that are facing the krappest economy in decades... could you imagine no MS ?? i think thats the worse of two evils !!!
 
That's what they said about XP before it was released.

These 'surveys' are soo silly ... which business is going to officially and publicly say "yes, we'll upgrade" to an unreleased OS? And very few do it in the first year, not because of the OS but for internal business, budget and resource reasons. Using this sort of 'survey' to besmirch Windows is disingenuous.

LOL I saw that as well. Also noticed the title said businesses, when the wording in the article said Enterprises. Might be splitting hairs, but I always believed an enterprise was a massive company, something different to your small and medium businesses.

Personally I dont think its that wierd though, I dont know of a single large company that has rolled out any new software package or OS the day it was released. Most of them even hold back on patches if things are working.

I mostly agree with what the article is saying mostly, but the writer does contradict himself:
Economic concerns and worries about compatibility -- the bugbear that doomed Vista in the corporate market -- will keep Windows 7 on the shelf for all but a handful of enterprises until at least 12 months after the OS becomes available later this year or early next, depending on Microsoft's release schedule.

What enterprise market? New business? If not the "cost" of re-engineering a business to Linux >> Windows 7 surely? I mean XP ->Linux has much more compatibility issues than XP -> Windows 7?

90% of our code-base is VB 6.0 and I had no problems testing in Windows 7? And all .NET stuff is fully supported.... Apart from OS licencing costs I don't get it.
 
Well the reality of the Vista flop means that a lot of people now realise that there is little to no benefit in upgrading their OS.

I'm on the March edition of XP Performance Edition by Tjools! (round 250mb), boots into Windows in under 30sec, I don't wait around for anything, and that's on my OC's E2180.. I could care less about a few DX10 effects..
 
Yea if they are not going to take on windows 7 for compatability problems, then they are not going to take on linux because in terms of compatibility is it just as bad as a new windows OS. O boy here we go again :p

Windows ME was also a flop.. didn't stop the current XP boom. As for booting up in 30 secs.. My windows 7 machine at home boots up in 12 secs to GUI, Which is at least 15 seconds faster than XP on the same machine
 
How should compatibility be an issue if Win 7 uses the Vista kernel? Also, a lot of companies just invested a crapload of money on getting Vista, so obviously they're not gonna spend more money on a new OS that has not been tried and tested yet, especially in this economic turmoil.
 
Well merc you are right but alot of companies have not develop for windows vista but should companies move over they have the base of vista which has been around for many years to work from. So moving to windows 7 should not be nearly as hard as moving to xp was or vista has been.

The title could be considered so but it's also NOT untrue is it. After all how do you consider the time frame of "bother".

It's a response to MS and pundit pro-Win7 hype. Some people aren't in the industry so don't know that enterprises don't upgrade each time a new release comes out, unlike many MyBB readers. ;)
 
Peter just admit that heading is not what the article says but what you think.

Sensationalism is boring and annoying. Stick to facts and quote correctly and please learn to use the edit button or multiquote because there is no need to spam 3 messages in a row.

It's true, 80-odd % won't bother. They haven't said - "won't bother to ever ..."
they just said "bother" for brevity's sake.
 
Did they speak to 100% of the market? wonder what the phone bill must have been to phone around the world and get this 80%, i mean damn i wonder who paid the phone bill?
