The Sweet...

I have been using Iburst for about 2 weeks now. I get between 96-100% signal strength and twice the download speed I used to get from ADSL. If I download a virus update from Symantec I get about 105k absolutely fantastic.

The Sour...

It takes me 10 connections before I actually get a stable connection that doesn't just sit and look pretty, when I leave the machine for awhile the connection seems to stall.
I also get alot of error messages when I try connect, these range from username/password errors to bad IP errors etc.

When things work they work great, however I really battle to get connected in the first place. All was well for the first couple of days, it seems to have been really bad the past 3 days.

Any ideas? I have the UTD and Windows XP, I haven't adjusted any settings or downloaded firmware updates.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

High Fibre,

IF you are using the iBurst software to establish your connection (as opposed to a router setup to do it for you), please could you post the exact error messages on this thread (http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=16699), hopefully WBS will explain what they mean & why they happen sometime soon.

On the subject of firmware, you might already have the latest firmware, but use this thread to find out (http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=16580).

LOL

Yes, I have been doing a bit of eVANSgelizing, I would like to think it has been working bcos the number of views on that SMME's VANS Licencing thread has shot up, but it is more likely to be some other reason unrelated to my ego.

PS: Feel free to add eVANSgelizing to your own signatures, after the Japanese Toilet Licensing I have run out of ideas...if it weren't NY'sEve I could try stopping in at the nearest nose candy store uhhhmmm I mean ad-agency :)

I don't get error messages, just a connected session that goes nowhere. I have to disconnect over and then reconnect a couple of times before I get a session that works. It suffers the same symptoms as ADSL once you have been capped for the month.

I am currently discussing the problem with WBS but they haven't recommended anything useful yet. You were right, the firmware version on my unit is the same version as the download on the web.

Its a strange one, I downloaded 596mb the other night in just over 4 hours without any problem.

Thanks for listening...

...I also get alot of error messages when I try connect, these range from username/password errors to bad IP errors etc...Lately I do get one error message over and over when I try connecting (ER017:There was no answer), Luis @ WBS explained the tech reason for that yesterday over the phone- carrier signal stuff that gets better when the UT has connected, from what he said it is nothing capacity related (which is what I was concerned about), and nothing to worry about, it is however annoying the way the UTL software does not handle it.

There is no sensible error message for incorrect username and/or password, from what I have experienced.

What were the bad IP errors?

Have been hammering my line this last 2 weeks and it seems alot better. I also spoke to Luis who informed me that the problems I was experiencing was due to base station upgrades and maintenance that they have been doing over the past week or two. Wasn't allowed to complain since they are still in the "testing" phase and we are only being billed half price :(

But all in all its alot better, I still get disconnected alot and battle with a stable connection once in awhile.

How goes Iburst for the rest of you?

High Fibre :) I wish I could say that it is better (i.e. pre 2004-12-23), sadly I cannot say that [yet] :(.

Since you're an ex-ADSL peep, do you know that ICASA published a request in the Government Gazette, asking you to tell them (ICASA) what's wrong with Telkom's ADSL? If not, click on the URGENT in my signature.

I still have the highest post count, IC, don't even try to pass me...

Anyways, this is apparently base station stuff, I used to get this alot on Northcliff in November when I first signed up. I expected downtime because of the pre-launch phase.

If they try that **** again without informing me of possible downtime (when they're officially launched) I'll blow a gasket
