Monster Phenom II available late April

duh retail in US $300, translates to R6000 once all add in their cut ... import duties, profit margins, transportation costs, vat
fukit

/droool... Need to start saving for my upgrade to Phenom

The 940 is retailing at around $230 in US, and selling at R2400 excl vat locally, so this one should be just over R3000 then... still cheaper than the i7 920
:D

I wonder if it will be a Black Edition? Because if it isn't, the 940 still might be more worth it, since it can be clocked to nearly 4Ghz without any serious cooling...

I for one would like to see AMD make a profit again and give the Big Blue some serious competition.

I think everyone does hey, but I think AMD are going to need to release a new line of CPU's asap, something that would compete with Intel's i7 range.

What I think they doing is trying to turn a profit and gonna then only start spending more and more on a new architecture. They going to have to move away from the current architecture and move to something that will give them more head room because they are currently pushing the limits of what they have (they've kept the same architecture and only just modified it quite a fair amount)

Yes and no. Yes because it would do them good to have a clear lead over intel in terms of everything. No because they always come up with new stuff and then intel copies it and makes it a little faster. AMD is in a way the R&D maker in the x86/x64 arena. (they invented x64 actually).
