Johannesburg - The principal and deputy of one of Pretoria's top schools will quit following allegations of funding irregularities worth R5m, reports said on Thursday.

Hoerskool Waterkloof head Dr Christo Becker, his deputy Andre Eloff and two women from the school's administration section had apparently been implicated in the maladministration of school funds, running into millions of rands, The Star newspaper reported.

Becker is the father of Christoff Becker, one of the so-called Waterkloof four, currently serving a 12-year sentence for the assault and murder of a homeless man.

According to a letter addressed to parents by the school's governing body, chairman Lukas Coetsee, a forensic investigation had indicated possible financial irregularities.

"Following this, the executive principal, Dr LC Becker and Mr AD Eloff, deputy executive principal, indicated that they would hand in their resignations to the Gauteng Department of Education," read the letter, written in Afrikaans.

Beeld newspaper said it was understood that the irregularities related to R5m from the school's aviation academy.

A reliable source told the daily that there had been serious questions since 2006 over the way in which the school spent its money and handled sponsorships.

This included questions as to where the money went that the school received from renting out billboards, which produced an income of between R80 000 and R100 000 per month, the source said.

Many parents wanted to know how the principal had paid for his son's legal costs while others raised eyebrows over the deputy principal's posh house in Silver Lakes estate, the source told Beeld.

But Becker's wife, Mariette, told Beeld: "This is all a misunderstanding which can be sorted out."

Eloff could not be reached for comment.

Why resign if it is a misunderstanding? Sort it out and continue with your job.

Lets hope justice prevails and they get prosecuted for this. Not like SAL, where you resign and they forget about all your fraud and corruption.

That school is rotten to the core! Murderers, druggies and fraudsters, all posing as posh, uppity, rich better-than-thou's. It's disgusting how corrupt the place is

Guys you are criticizing an establishment without determining for yourself if your information is correct or not. Waterkloof is an exceptional and well balanced school that performs excellent on academic, sport and cultural areas and this all was established under the dynamic leadership of Dr Becker. He might have done a couple of wrong things in his life, but after all he is human like all of us. My daughter is in Grade 12 in Waterkloof this year and my son matriculated there in 2007 and I can assure you I speak for both of them if I say it is with regret that we see Dr Becker go. Before criticising the school please visit www.klofies.co.za and look at all the achievements that were achieved there over the last couple of years (e.g. Top Academic School in Gauteng twice in the last five years, Top Mathematic School in SA etc.).

The school is not under fire here but rather the administration.
We all know how well Waterkloof does academically and in sport. Now imagine if he used all that energy and time spent on stealing from his employers(parents, sponsors) and channeled it back into the school. They would have done even better.
The fact is 5 million Rand is not a small mistake. They knew exactly what they were doing and all parents and sponsors should demand their prosecution.

I do not say they should not be prosecuted; I merely say it that I am sorry to see Dr Becker go. He achieved success under very difficult personal circumstances without neglecting his duty once and that will always be remembered of him. I also agree with you that the school could have benefitted with the additional money, but that would probably have given just more ammunition to the critics who already think that the school is just for murderers, druggies and fraudsters, all posing as posh, uppity, rich better-than-thou's.

I never said that but I am very sure a lot of people perceive it like that.
Like I said my other half matriculated from Waterkloof. She only went there because her parents lived 500m from the school. But she definitely benefited from the excellent teachers and coaches at the school.

All I am saying is. Bekker should be prosecuted along with all other people implicated in the matter. They stole from all parents and the sponsors.
Then they can all share a cell with his beloved son.

I bet they never thought the reunion would happen like this.

I'm sorry, I shouldn't have generalised as I had. I was referring to the proven crimes which have been committed by pupils and staff of the school. I'm sure there are those who did benefit from the strengths of the school.

No need to apologize. I was not offended by that at all and neither was she.
Unfortunately all the bad press about Waterkloof created that type of image about the school. So you only said what the media said.:p

MacFires, no doubt Waterkloof is an exceptional school. How often have we seen good schools be dragged through the mud because of the actions of a handful of administrators, teachers or students? It unfortunately happens all the time.

However on the subject of Dr Becker- his teenage son murdered a defenceless man, never once showing remorse only smugness and satisfaction at his action of taking an innocent life. You cannot tell me that this attitude in Dr Becker's son was not, in some small way, a result of his upbringing. I have no connections with the school whatsoever, but it sure does sound to me like Waterkloof will be a heck of a lot better off without the murderer and the murderer's corrupt father.

I do wish the school all the best and hope they see the eventual removal of these cancerous people as a positive step forward for the school.
