Boesak slams DA's 'Stop Zuma'

Cape Town - Cope Western Cape premier-candidate Allan Boesak has criticised the DA's recently-launched "Stop Zuma" campaign, saying it "reeks of swart gevaar tactics".

The Democratic Alliance was playing the man and not the policy in an effort to mobilise its support base among affluent South Africans, he said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Opposition politics should be about policy, about what the party you vote for will deliver either as an effective opposition, or as a government for the people, by the people.

"Cheap rhetoric that smacks of racist undertones, playing the man and not the policy; welcome to the world of the DA, a party infused with apartheid-style politics which has no place in our country."

Constructive solutions were what was needed, said Boesak.

"A more constructive approach should see slogans and campaigns that read 'Stop Crime', 'Stop Unemployment', 'Stop Poverty', 'Stop Corruption', 'Stop Inadequate Healthcare' - ideals meaningful to South Africans," Boesak said.

Boesak might just be one of those alleged ANC spies that have infiltrated COPE:D

I happen to agree with Boesak on this one. But keep in mind that this the DA we talking about. They exploit the fear of the citizens more than anyone else. Screw policy, play the man!

Remember the "Take back" campaign slogan?

No Sox it was "fight black" :D

While I don't agree with the racist apartheid undertones part, I am totally against DA's bad campaign and their STOP ZUMA posters plastered about the place.
It's totally wrong.

Its about prosecuting Zuma for the corruption charges that were dropped by the NPA! It has nothing to do with the elections other than that Zuma is the president of the ANC.

How can you not play the man when you intend bringing him to court? Boesak is clearly very ill-informed, that lying cheating stealing-from-children corrupt b*****d.

Once again its about raising awareness and money to take him to court to make him accountable for 700 counts of corruption!

Maybe you did not read the press release, but it has little to do with the court case or raising funds as you may think.

It is just a ploy from the DA to continue on their "stop ANC 2/3rds majority" campaign.

The ANC already has plans to emasculate local governments led by the DA. And if the DA succeeds in its call for a judicial review of the NPA's decision to withdraw charges against Zuma on 783 counts of corruption, then it is entirely predictable that Zuma's ANC will change the Constitution to protect an incumbent president from facing corruption charges in court. But this can happen only if the ANC gets the two-thirds electoral majority it needs to change the Constitution."

The DA is against the ANC getting 2/3 majority; but they are more against this happening with Zuma at the helm.

Its about preventing Zuma from being able to change the constitution to his own advantage to prevent future prosecution.

Note: it does not state that they must stop the ANC from winning, but stop the ANC from gaining a 2/3 majority to protect the party president. As such it makes sense in order to stop ensure JZ faces justice. Once that is secured charges can be brought forward.

Does anyone actually care what Boesak says?

If Tutu had said this perhaps people would think about it. But Boesak?

Well Boesak is a lying thief, I most definitely would never vote for COPE because they have embraced such a man!

I'd imagine COPE supporters do care...
or is perhaps anyone speaking against your beloved DA not worth the attention?

He did the crime, did the time, and was pardoned, now what more do you want?

The DA freakin irritates me.
They really do come across as an antagonistic bitter old man sometimes. I wish we had a better alternative to split votes in this country for more balanced democracy(and no COPE is simply the ANC with differant shoes, besides watch whats going to happen to the elected COPE people after the election. I predict floorcrossing galore).

A leopard, squire, does not change it spots. The man stole from children (essentially) and forgiveness is something you earn - not something a president bestows upon you!

Speaking of geriatric men: some people are just never happy and all they do is complain, complain, complain

Do you think exploiting someone's fears is worse than giving someone a government food grant paid for with our tax money and pretending that it came from the ANC?

Just checking :)

Two wrongs certainly dont make a right. And one would think the DA would hold themselves to a higher standard than the ANC.

But it is a political party after all.

Same here. I have not seen the DA's campaign state much about their policies - it's mainly been an attack on the ANC and Zuma. It's a pity though, I may have voted for them if they were more clear on their policy directives.

Sure and it's understandable, but by the same token I don't really recall the DA being so heavily critical when somebody like Wouter Basson got off.

It isn't my beloved DA. It is Boesak - and he didn't do the time.

It's just one of those things - it really would not matter to me how good the policies of COPE are, there is just no way that they would get my vote for the WC with him as the candidate. In similar fashion, the ANC could give me a thousand grants, or whatever it is they are using to buy votes, and Zumatello would not get a cross from me.

Yeah - policy is important but when you stick thieving numbskulls up as your face, you've lost me. 'Give him another chance, give him another go' might work on those with the same lack of intelligence as certain quiz show audiences.

Boesak is confused. The ANC's policies are sound, they're just being implemented very ineptly by small-minded bigots who are way out of their depth.

Bogger jou, Boesak, en Zuma ook.
