Seems like virus season is here folks!

Getting a sudden surge in calls from clients who are having trouble with virusses. Stuff gets through updated AVG and CA... Avast is doing wonders to help clean up. Need to test Kaspersky on this outbreak still...
 
/Me sticks to Linux... Let me know when it's safe to boot up again in Windows.
 
How annoying, and some fools even falling prey to the stupid MSN virus's going around. Logging into a fake photobucket site and entering the msn u/n and p/w, thus spamming all uses in their contacts, and so the cycle goes...
How annoying..

Well it did on the computers I had to fix. I removed whatever antivirus was on the pc and installed avast and did boot time scan.
 
I think the virus writers are creeping out of their winter seclusion up north. :D

sorry i am taking your thread OT.

But it only runs that scan once never again? Thats how Avast works right?

Basically whenever anything is opened it checks for viruses?

Correct! :)

You can ask it to run a deep scan like that. The thing about boot time scan is that the virusses are not really in OS, and hence defenceless for removal. You can schedule it when needed to remove certain tough viruses.
 
oi, i run avg - and update it everytime i connect to the net?

should i change?

i also run malware and ad-aware, so maybe i'll be pretty safe (although you can never be sure...if you run windows ofcourse)
 
AVG is ***...So many viruses get through. I used to have a AVG together with Adaware and Spybot Search&Destroy for malware and my one laptop still got infected pretty badly. Change brother! I have Norton 2009 running on my other laptop and its updated all the time. No issues so far!
 
Was on the brink of re newing AVG with Glen at ATS tonight ! Saw this and have installed Avast to see..Was not happy with AVG lately..

Benefits of going to the paid up version ??

I'm running AVG on one machine, and NOD32 antivirus on the other. I often get flash drives from poeple which have infected files. The PC with NOD32 often picks up the that AVG doesn't seem to detect. Both PC's have internet access, and both programs update automatically.

It's obvious that AVG (free) isn't nearly as effective as NOD32.
 
Bit off the topic but
Im running BitDefender antivirus and dont really know much about antiviruses would just like to ask if this is a good antivirus

+10 i have nod and i think its 1 of the best on the market
 
I use nod32 for my main rig and avast for the rest of the house holds pc's. Nod32 is fantastic but if you want a good free one you can't go wrong with avast.
 
Kaspersky and Avast are my two recommended security software that I recommend at the moment. Avast's ability to recover virus busted machines is phenomenal with their boot time scan. Honestly amazing stuff!
