Whats the story with newshost?

I am fairly new to this forum, so nobody here knows me. I hav been goin through various posts, cheking out info on news servers, as I hav been looking for settings to get them most out of them. That said.

Why are South Africans always a bunch of selfish ???????? (you decide wot goes there).

I dont know exactly what the story with newshost is, but why must anything, ie internet related, always hav to be a closed circle. Someone created a local nzb site...... then only certain people can benefit.

My understanding is that the more people download, the longer files will be cached, which in turn means the more everyone benefits. Even if that were not the case, most of the users are benefitting from the fact that somebody somewhere created the nzb files, then posted it on some international site, which someone from SA downloaded, then posted it on newshost (or whatever other service it may be).

I just would just like to know which files have been cached, and what has not.

So maybe there will be a response to this or maybe nobody even bothers to read it, or maybe it never actually gets posted.

My point......... People want to get stuff for free (movies, games, etc.), but dont want to share that which they have not paid for. Seems unfair to me.

Getting nzb files are not a hassle, there are international sites where on can get these, so whats the point of the closed circle?????

The one benefit, is obviously that people can see what has been downloaded via the local servers.
Non newshost local internet users are still going to download from news servers if they know about them, and figure out how to use them......

you see.. if the circle had stayed as small as it once was.. we wouldn't be in this cached or uncached boat... it would just go at full speed regardless like it used to

so they dont want the server to come to a crawl.. so they make it a little more closed.. you can still easily get access its just a little more effort.

Wouldnt it be nice if like in Utopia, the servers were constantly upgraded and an internet connection (like petrol) actually cost what it supposed to, and not what someone decides it should be.

+1. I'm rather starting to get annoyed by people complaining about NewsHost. It is not the only way to get access to the news servers, if they did more research they would know that.

Invites are closed...there's nothing we can do for you anyways...

You mention south african's being selfish?? who is paying for newshost? if it was a paid service and they said you can't join then i would understand your complaints... but the disabling of invites have nothing to do with the expense of new users its to do with the news servers. while you right about the fact that the more users the better for cached content the problem lies in the fact that the more users the less it matters whether the content is cached or not. going 5kb/s is better than 0kb/s when you can't get a connection.

the news servers do not get upgraded so they cannot handle more users. the amount of new users on newshost was causing a huge lag on the news servers, the amount of users were increasing exponentially due to people inviting more and more people thus spreading the awareness. of course newshost does not control the servers or have anything to do with them except the fact that they bring extra attention to them - which is really bad. at one stage you could not get a connection for days - it seems much better now though.

maybe quite a good option would be to allow just the caching status to be shown to everyone through a kind of search. but not make the downloading of the files available?

there is another major reason why there needs to be some closed community and that is the fact that some people would report newshost as something that is illegal. obviously newshost is not illegal but some of the more uneducated people (drukkie - who supposedly didnt do it but whatever) think they have something to do with that and report it.
