urgent help needed : 42" lg lcd tv @ game

hey guys
ive been shopping around for about 4 months now for a 32" lcd with a budget of 6-7 k. initially i wanted a sony, cos i liked the look of it, but now i see game has some lg's on special till this sunday.

so naturally i looked at the 32" going for 4999 - (32lg10)
which i think is a good price, but they also have a full hd lcd 42" (42lg50fr) for R9999, so now im considereing this one? what do u guys think?
ill be using mostly for gaming, movies and series from hdd. they also have a few plasmas so im not too sure. thing is ive never really paid attention to lg since now, just never liked the broad bottom section of the scarlet series.

32" lcd - 32lg10 = R4999

42" full HD lcd - 42lg50fr = R9999
LG South Africa :: LG50

42" plasma - 42pg20r = R8999

42" plasma - 42pg60ur = R9999

so my question is : does anyone own one of these or would you buy any these sets and what do u guys think bout lg in terms of reliability and service?

a 42" Full HD LCD for 10G's sounds good to me!

what kinda gaming are you talking about? Is your Screen gonna be used with your PC or in your lounge (combined as a TV, probably) ?

get a *FULL HD* LCD if it's gonna used for a PC, plasma's are better to watch TV with.
 
well its for xbox, and i might be using my laptop once in a while
it will be goin in my bedroom, since i dont have a lounge in my tiny flat, hahah
it will be super awesome i think
 
ok... I think you want a plasma, but i'm not too sure because i've only done most research on LCD's.....

best let someone else help. killadoob knows about this stuff if i'm not mistaken....
 
Iwould act quick on the 42" Full HD , as i went to GAME on Wednesday and overheard the sales person say that they had 50 yesturday and only 10 stock left , so call the branch first to check forStock.
 
You HAVE to test the lcd screen you want WITH an xbox -

the picture will be great but you have to see if the motion blur, tearing and other lcd artifacts bug you. They've all got them. It's like switching from CRT to LCD in games.

I've got a fullhd 42, 6m response and it is awesome, but sometimes I miss the smoothness of a 100hz sony wega I had before... I never tested an xbox game on a plasma, but from what I hear it runs a bit smoother...
 
Yeah I wouldn't go rushing to get the FullHD just yet, afaik the black colours on Plasmas are much deeper blacks.

Best to wait for a few people with XBoxes, using LCD's & Plasma's to post.
 
The blacks aren't a huge problem, but there are definitely issues. Apparently the tearing happens on plasmas too - but I'm really not an expert. Also depends on component vs hdmi vs vga - there's a million ways these things can go... just spend the time in the shop hassling the guys - most GAME hifi employees really suck balls - I got way better service at makro.
 
Audiovision has a special on their LG plasmas next week. R15k for a 50", dunno what the res is.
 
I have a FULL HD Bravia and use my Xbox everyday.

As soon as you see the welcome screen on the Xbox on your LCD, you will be smiling from ear to ear.

Go for it. I dont think you will get a FULL HD panel for under 10k anytime soon again.
 
thats abit out of my price range

@enx - and ill be takin my xbox and some movies to test out it
 
Had a look at the 32lg10 this morning, but no stock left :mad: Looking for a cheapish tv for the bedroom.

Asked them to switch to normal SD DTSV (they had the HD channel on all the displays). It is amazing how much better the plasma's look on SD.

On HD feed they all look good, just a matter of personal preference I suppose.
 
I have a Sony Bravia 50" 3LCD, it's 720p (so not full HD) but I would take my tv over any 42" full hd anyday. The best thing to do is to take your laptop to the store, get a view test videos (movies, series, whatever you're going to watch) and demo them on the sets you're interested in.

I'd always go bigger, so between the 32 and 42? 42 :) It won't be too long and you'll be tired of the 32 and want something bigger. Full HD isn't necessary at the mo. PS3 and 360 look awesome on a 720p set. Most people can't tell the difference between 1080p and 720p.

As for LCD vs Plasma? There is no 'winner', it's all about personal preference.

IMO Why not save a bit more and buy a Sony Bravia 40" ?

I know you can't wait longer but, it will be worth the wait...

I Bought A Sony Bravia 40" a few months ago with a PS3 and man... The HD games kick's ass!!! I'm very impressed.

Just remember to buy a HD cable cuz they are sold separately if you gonna buy a xbox or PS3.
