Opnions On How To Get Fast Internet like Telkom Broadband In Other Parts Of Africa

I would like to know ways of how to get Broadband like the Telkom Broadband in other parts of Africa. And also how to share that connection with other people.

At the moment we are using Vsats to get connected on to the Internet is there any other way to get internet really fast and instead of using radio waves to share the net can we use frequency like DSTV they give frequency of their TV stations and the customers can connect from any part of the particular country. Where as if we use frequency the data transfer will be faster and will not be {cut} frequently. Whereas radio waves get cut frequently and are slow at data transfer if frequency is not possible. Is it possible to just give the users a telephone line and get them to get connected to a server 24/7 and data should be transferred on telephone lines but how can this be archived if it is possible.

Please give us idea's and opinions we can put to test?

We at the moment supply internet in some parts of Africa through radio waves and are finding it very slow wanting to upgrade systems we need idea's from you people so please give your opinion’s.

There is nothing you can do. I looked into it. Your only option is satellite or EDGE is certain bigger towns. There is a very slow, CDMA service operated by ZAIN in certain areas if you have that carrier in the country in question.

You don't mention which parts of Africa you are talking about. Some African countries like Egypt and Morocco actually have better, faster and cheaper broadband products than South Africa.

We mostly use VSAT for our branches in Africa. However some countries do offer ADSL and Cable services. Our Nairobi and Maputo branches run ADSL with VPN link into our corporate network via Orange Business Services. Then one of our branches in Angola runs the same setup but via cable. Biggest problem with sub-saharan countries are the bandwidth out of the country. Some have great infrastructure locally but if the international speeds sucks then you are screwed for any kind of VPN setup.

well its malawi the country and vpn connection can you please go more in detial we want to get something like adsl but want a breif detial on how to get it here in malawi ?

1) Find a country willing to share their fast internet with you.

2) Get permission from all countries between you and country in (1) to allow you to lay a fibre cable.

3) Dig a trench from country (1) to you to lay fibre in.

4) Lay fibre cables to each home/organization that want fast internet.

5) Hire security guards posted every 100 meters along the way of fibre network to ensure fibre don't get stolen. See here.

Going to cost you big time, I'll stick with Satellite if I were you.
