Buying bike - no papers

Hi.

Alright, I'm looking to get myself a motorbike. I've looked around and found a sweet 2nd hand deal. It's a Suzuki RGV 250 that's going for a great price.

The only problem is that it's listed as "without papers". What exactly does this mean? Does it mean that I can't register the bike under my name? I hope not, because that would suck as I really want this bike.

Any advice would be muchos appreciatos

I replied to this yesterday, but I don't know what happened to my answer. Bottom line is DON'T! Bloody thing could be anything from stolen to a Code 3 write off. The sweet deal will turn very bitter very quickly!!

You go to the licencing department and ask them for 3 page printout on the bike's engine no and chassis numbers, this tells you if it's stolen and who the previous owners were.

Then to get your log book you take the bike with that printout through police clearance, make sure the numbers are clean and legible. From there you get it roadworthy and licenced.

The only mission is waiting for those lazy damn cops to get off their arses..

I did this with an XT500 around about 1998 so maybe things have changed with thier enatis stuff-up.
Talk the price down more because of all of that.

Edit: somewhere along the line you need a signed avidavit saying why their's no papers..
Dealing with the licencing department, smile and greet them no matter how much you think you're getting stuffed around.

Thanks for the Post Drake. Don't think I'll be pushing the price down even more because it's going for R8000. I know that sounds sketch but I'll take a friend with who knows his stuff, so he'll see whether the bike's been taking any damage. From the model number I'm guessing it's about 10-12 years old so some is expected.
