View Full Version : Just a FUNNY thing!!! (iBurst)

Source

Ya well i got my self the iBurst as a add-on service to my existing Sentech 512k connection, and as you guys know if you put up a big enough patch antenna you dont get a too bad signal... i phoned iBurst support to ask where i could find the WXC (male) plug to use with the patch antenna i bought... anycase they did not know and said i must wait a week or two for their antennas to arrive.

I just could not wait.. after a few hours of thinking my plan through operation "Solder The Damn Thing On" started. and now i sit with a f**ked PC board and a no signal problem...

why does lifes lessons have to be so expensive?

so my actual question is.. does anyone knoow how to fix this?

thanks

Could have been worse. It could have worked, and then you'd have posted that it worked, and then everybody else tries it and then theirs fails, and then you'd be a hunted man.

Source, while I know I wouldn't have done what you did, I also know that I wouldn't have created a thread telling everyone about it.

All I can say dude: good luck with the time travel required to Alt+Backspace ;)

Perhaps having researched it first might have helped. :D Unfortunately the only advise I can offer you is this.

Firstly a directional attenna is useless, the technology is cellular and therefore omni.

Secondly your patch attenna prob runs at the wrong frequency anyways. Iburst runs at 1.8Ghz while your antenna is most likely running at 2.4Ghz

As to fixing your problem.... there is a small switch inside the connector. It is used to disable to integrated antenna when an external one is connected. You will probably find that it has been damaged or is activated.

Locate and rectify that and you might just get it working again. ;)

take the modem back to iburst and explain to them how the soldering iron fell ontop of the modem... maybe they will supply u with a new one ;)

..."Solder The Damn Thing On" started. and now i sit with a f**ked PC board and a no signal problem...Source, definitely what Alchamy said!

I just want to clarify- we are talking about a UTD (I know there is an external antenna thingy for the UTC), UTD yes?

To access the UTD's pcb you must've removed the plastic covers, yes?

If so, why is it so difficult to fix operation DIY hatchet job?

While you are routling about in there, take some photos, I'm sure some of us would like to know what it looks like in there ;)

Source

But anyways i am taking it to a electronics expert friend of mine .. he said he could fix it, and yeah it is a UTD and i removed the covers to do my soldering work. for the fun of it ill take some before and after pictures of DIY fixup thingum and post them on my ftp site for all you guys to take a laugh at :)

my antanna is directional but it is 1.8Ghz that I did research ;)

Thanks guys

You are probably the most idiotic person I've ever seen on the forum, and trust me, I know a couple...

Sentech's 512k sucks ass in comparision with iburst, the modem is twice as expensive, yet you decide to **** it up? DUMBASS

I've also never had signal problems with iburst, infact, I average 98% signal strenght, between my home, my cousin's place and my work (both offfices)

Whereas Sentech never gave me more than 23%, and died on me if i moved the modem 1 cm to the right.

You my friend, i shudder in saying this, has too much money and too much time. go get laid :P

Hey all

I use forums for dumbass stupid questions all the time, because I, just like Source, do things that others are not prepared to do because the rules tell them they shoudn't.

And so once I've dewired, resoldered or just generally destroyed a once perfectly working or unworking object from a washing machine door timer lock to a swimming pool pump or a piece of computer hardware, I sometimes find that I have to expose my attempts and theories on the particular subject in order to tap into the knowledge of those that have been there before me.

It happens very rarely, but of course sometimes I get dissed by lamers like noone. In my experience, very rarely do these bedroom loners have anything to contribute to the actual topic, and in this instance my theory stands. Noone contributed two stupid and irrelevant postings that in no way contributed to the subject of what Source was talking about.

Let me provide an example of how irritating these postings can be, I'm sure many of you are aware of this issue, so I'm not treating you like children okay, this is just for noone.

You do a google because you have a problem or you want a driver or a solution. In your google you come across a few forum postings.

You click a promising looking link, the post contains almost the exact question you are asking.

You're using telkom adsl so of course the page takes ages to come up.

The next post after the question says "me too does anyone know the driver or the solution?"

The next post says:

"I'm also looking for the answer hey if you find it email me okay?"

And the next:

"me too I'm desperate...."

"Me too" says the next post. "Tried everything, have the exact same prob as you PLEASE HELP!!!"

"hahaha you stupid lame ass with too much money" says noone

"ad frickin nauseum"

until you don't find an answer

The point is noone there are intelligent people who can get away with being insulting in forums, because they contribute. This does not necessarily mean they are well liked.

Then there are unintelligent people like yourself who just clog up forums with useless comments, like the example above and the example you have made of yourself in this forum.

To me it's a simple thing, but maybe to you it's a fine art of the intelligentsia that you haven't mastered.

So let me spell it out for you okay, Insulting is usually a pretty ugly thing unless

1. It's directed at monopolies like Telkom or any company riding their bandwagon or
2. It's done in a way that is both humourous and informative

Now I'm a nice guy so instead of insulting you I'll just say, "You fail on both counts, but there's room for improvement."

Hopefully you'll heed the advice, otherwise I'm looking forward to your lame ass comments that will only reiterate my point further...

AcidRaZor
14-01-2005, 09:48 AM
Okay Steve, I laughed through you post, but only because you wrote it for noone... da dum dish :)

If you've ever googled for information and saw the postings of other people, you'll find a "promising link" and find 20-30 people asking the same freaking question.

The REASON why I posted a flame instead of a "aw, shame, here is how you could solve the problem" is simply because Source was an outright dumbass to even do what he did before even consulting a forum like this to ask what his options were and to ask what everyone else's opinion was on IF he did infact do what he did, how he should do it and what are the problem areas some people would experience with this, aka, ****ing up the PC Board.

But, he didn't, thus my insult. You must be the same type of idiot (I now dub thee, stoooopid) as sometimes I'm an idiot as well, but one who would do actual research on what I am thinking about doing BEFORE doing it.

Sometimes I'll **** something up because I don't mind learning from my mistakes, but I make a point of it to learn from others mistakes (or try to) BEFORE venturing out on my own and doing things "my way"

I design system processes and CRM systems (as well as B2B) software for a living, and trust me, just by looking at other people's mistakes, I can roll out a kick ass flexible robust system in less time you take to equate pi.

So like I said, I hate idiots like you and Source who has too much money lying around ****ing things up. The fact that Source has a Sentech 512k connection and chose to **** up a beautiful service like iBurst rather only goes to show the extent of his idiotic behavior in general.

By you sticking up for him (and I might add, you have a very good point, but like I explained, Source already commited the act of idiocy and should be hammered for it) you prove to me that "birds of a feather stick together" and that by combining the IQ of both you and Source would infact give a null reference exception while trying to calculate it.

I might be lame in my own right, I might be insane, I might be brilliant, I might be a hot lesbian chick who sometimes like experimenting with guys. That has nothing to do with the fact that both you and Source has contributed to the whole declination of intelligence in this forum.

stoke

Noone the point remains that prior to my dissing you, you dissed source, and in a most lame and pathetic way. And if I had not posted what I did (which was off topic - sorry ic, but remember that your response in supprt of noone was off topic too) that would have been that.

But noone, now you have been afforded the wonderful opportunity of time to actually think before you commit to text, you have retorted in a way that makes you look like a sensible and meaningful human being... which I'm sure sometimes you are.

And from this little flame, hopefully you will continue to be that nice person.

But based on your explanation for your diss on source, I think you need to realise that solutions do not materialise from a singular approach, you sound very much like a 'yes man' technician one that follows a time proven approach, one that thinks according to what others say, one that does his 'research' by asking others prior to making a decision... but noone who first discovered those solutions if not the guy that got out the soldering iron and tried something that didn't work and then CONTRIBUTED to a forum which you dissed??

Sorry ic I know this is totally off thread so if you want to start a new topic about this whole subject let's jump right in.

Oh, by the way lesbians do not have any desire for men on the side, just the same way that gay men do not have any desire for women on the side.

If they DO swing both ways they're pretty happy to admit that they're bi okay (and they will tell you this at any opportunity), so sorry to spoil your very 1980's machismo illusions, but that's just the way it is

Yup noone on the subject of gay/lesbian affairs, even though I am straight and happily married with two lovely little boys, who may or may not turn out to be gay, I believe I do have some understanding.

On the subject of people being flamed unnecessarily I also believe I have some understanding.

On the subject of being called 'stoopid' (sp?) by a person like yourself I pretty damn well understand. In fact I expect to be called stoopid (sp?) by your sort, because if you and I were on a level, I'd be just as stupid as yourself.

Why? Because I am empathetic.

As the head of some team I'm sure you're familiar with that term.

And on the subject of Source's original post, I admit to not have contributed anything, which is why I realise I now need to bow out and say my goodbyes in this regard.

So, in the spirit of a decent disagreement, "last comments please gentlemen..."

signing out ... (But I may be back with some dumb question for noone to diss)

AcidRaZor
16-01-2005, 12:04 AM
Dumb questions are always welcome and I usually try to help where I can, especially when I know the answer.

"Stoopid" have been spelt incorrectly for reason of not being able to vocalize any response I might have. If you've ever watched Animaniacs, you'll get what I mean by spelling it "Stoopid"

Being empathetic is nice... but in the end, empathy for someone or something can drain you in ways you cannot understand. The words "soul suckers" comes to mind.

Like I said in a previous post. If he ASKED a dumb question re: The whole soldering issue, instead of asking how to fix his now ****ed up modem, he would have gotten a response a long the lines of "The connector is of x type which you can person from person y which will cost you around z, the antennae is 1.8ghz and you can go to www.blabla.com to look for more information on your query, otherwise just google it, you're bound to find something"

Yet, because of his idiotic behaviour and false "innovation" and not talking to anyone before helping his modem commit suicide (poor thing couldn't defend itself! <-- see EMPATHY) led to this slew of posts.

I felt it nessacary to flame. I'll kick anyone working under me in the nuts if they dropped a production database table just because "they didn't know what it would do but tried anyway because they wanted to learn"

You might be suprised how much a simple question can save you in time and money. Then again, the super rich dont care

Gee I thought it was supposed to be last words, but okay I can see I'm in deep here, all these IT guys and team leaders and solderers and whatnot, hey I'm not in IT, but becaue of the IT industry I've had to be in it, while trying to do my normal job as a journalist, simply because the IT industry comes up with things that don't work without a kick here and a tweak there. Take that in mind the lot of you who drum up your own experience.

My internet connectivity dates back to '94 when I was being ripped off by compuserve and CSIR for my then R2000 per month connectivity fee and every flipping day since then, in all that time we've gone from 9.6kbps right through to G-d on a plate.

And as all these updates and changes have come about, I've had some frustrating moments where I've done 'stoopid' things that most of the time haven't worked, but sometimes they have. And during those times I have had some very brilliant advice in forums and the occasional bs, but I can't ever remember being flamed the way noone flamed source.

So if we're all going to carry on about experience and who does or knows what, then I think Sources latest victory in finding a solution for his problem (albeit not related to the soldering issue - it came about because of it - with no help from noone no matter what he says about research) and noones subsequent pathetic flaming on the subject, proves IN MY EXPERIENCE, that Source has provided a much better contribution overall to the internet community than noone has, or ever will, unless he thinks before he flames.

So sticking to my original point in this forum, my case rests.

Oh and sorry to people like spamtheman who want people like Source off 'your' internet (was it yours back in '94 when I wasn't competing for bandwidth with f-cktards like yourself, I must ask) but perhaps you should check his latest post on how he solved his issue, maybe then you too will reserve your useless comments until you have a case to make.

Nighty night all.

You must be young then? Because I'm a programmer as well, but needed an electrical engineering degree to actually become one, did my N3 and then saw the whole IT market booming and realized you don't need a varsity degree if you're already a good programmer.

How can you be in IT and not even soldered before? Thats besides the point. I applaud you from at least learning from your previous mistake and a very good job done on finding an antenna solution.

Steve, I don't care how literate you might be, I've contributed much more than half-assed flames like I did. But I feel that if I went and said nothing, Source would never have learnt.

BTB, Source, you sure you're not one of my Junior Programmers? Because they all need a kick in the butt, but due to office politics, I can only nod and smile and fix their f-ups for them! :)

well, what I do for a living is my hobby, so the chances of me being busy on my pc is 95%. I've been on this forum for well over 2 years and if you view my average posted count, it's around 4.77 (or 5) posts a day.

Working in 5 posts a day during my working hours and afterhours is not that much of a big deal because I spend 5 minutes max on this forum.

I work nearly 14 hours a day, during which I work full out for about 45 minutes and take a break for at least 15 minutes. I don't smoke so I force myself not to work and thus, come here for a laugh or a discussion or two. (Or I work on personal projects)

I do go out and "have fun", but like I said, it's my hobby, this is my "fun place", and unfortunately I'm not immature enough to get ****faced and chase after women. I make a great living by myself, and by the time you're my age, you wouldn't have accomplished half the things I have nor have accumulated anything in terms of wealth of knowledge or wealth period. I can say that I can retire in 4 years time, and I'm not even in my late 20's yet.

Afterwhich I then will get ****faced and chase after women because I can afford to :)

Forum etiquette aside, I'm so totally sick of you slimothy. Why don't you just go to some other forum and be a fun killer and a troll, because that's exactly what you are. There are two or three people here that have pointed out things to you that you don't like in the past, so you consistently "attack" them with little sarcastic posts like the one above.

It's really boring.

mmm...I once tried to solder an antenna onto a lesbian but she told me she only like IT geeks with lots of money. Unfortunately I can't post any pics. Lesbians don't like male antennas.

Ooh, you guys make me feel like an OLD geezer - I remember PUNCHCARDS. Used to be hot on the punching machines. You put your whole program (in Fortran, nogal!) & data in a box and handed it in at a kiosk. The next day you got 1000 reams of paper back to tell you that (a) you made a silly misake in line 121 of your program and (b) because you did not specifically turn it off, here is a core dump of the entire gazillion bytes of computer memory, in hex. Ahh, the mad clatter of line printers, punch card readers, the click and whirr of tape machines, the marvelously heavy disks...

You've got me all nostalgic now... Sniff! Gotta play some Elvis.

Hey no one has mentioned my all time favourite the ZX Spectrum with wait for it 64k ram, and moms old tape recorder. I will never forget the day that i wrote my first "game" and having finally ironed out the bugs was going to run it as mum pulled out the plug to make a cup of coffee.

I actually used a USR Courier 2400bps modem which I thought was really fast when dialing into BB.

Anybody remember Fidonet or Rob's List ???.

My first internet account was with Compustat (Internet Africa) using the Trumpet Winsock TCP/IP stack and dailer, a SLIP account running on Windows 3.0 with the Win32s 32 bit extensions using a new fangled browser called Mosiac V1.0.

I feel so old.

I remember the first time that one of the BIG banks in SA upgraded from a 16 bit OS to a 32 bit OS in the Mini Computer (Data General's AOS -> AOS/VS) environment. A month later we upgraded the memory to a whole 1 Megabyte. All the Bank Execs were there to see this event because the mainframe was still processing on 512K.

I also remember programming in Fortran 4 using overlays to address more than the limitation in the memory of the 16bit systems.

Used to work from 7:00 am untill 23:00 and then duck into Hillbrow for a jol.

Now I don't even think I can code to save my life anymore, but I can tell you how to make your ITC more efficient and effective and how to improve your processes using ITIL, CobiT or CMM/it.

I Remember Fidonet and downloading utilities from Simtel so that I could Beta Test IBM OS/2 v 2.0 (don't think it was commercially released OS/2 2.1 was the official release)

Man those were the days.
