Empowerment is doomed to fail, unless…

It seems the dude has a VERY poor understanding of BBBEE.

And I blame that on the media for always focusing on ownership.

They are about people who were previously deprived of skills and were excluded from meaningful participation in economic activity.

Somehow Ngcobo believes this only encompasses Black people. A very racist attitude, in my opinion. There still continues to be female ownership and employment, disabled persons and other non-Europeans which could easily account for many of the points scored. Yet, in his belief these people still haven't suffered enough to earn it.

White females are now persona non grate vis a vis BEE, by the way. It counts for nothing.

Is that just your opinion blu? Really I am wondering, perhaps you have personal experience. Judging by this article it is a very valid point, though.

Ask around :)

Nonsense. You cant make a sweeping statement like that and not substantiate it.

I recently submitted a empowerdex certificate for our company for a tender, for which the audit was completed last month, and there under employment equity and management control, the same scores as our last one appeared.

The employee profile of where I work has not changed and has a very LARGE white woman component, so had what you claimed been the case, it would have drastically reduced. Hence I ask for confirmation, and not water cooler discussions.

I am a white female and yes, I speak from experience.

When the SASOL, MTN, ADCOCK INGRAM and other BEE deals came out, we even had a debate on it here on the forum. If e.g. a group of white women were to form a consortium and apply for shares ... no luck.

We tender quite regularly and the word is that white females count for no additional points.

Even with AA, it has become harder for white females to even get to the interview stage.

What you have just described is not a legislative issue. Those companies have the right who to include their initiatives.

With regards to the additional points you mentioned, is that additional points on top of being an HDI? As the points difference between HDI and PDI has always been there.

there's been long standing dissatisfaction at women counting towards BEE. i would not be surprised, that while officially being a white woman scores you points, that when being adjudicated it does not.

there are many things which differe vastly from what is official process.

Well Phosa said that AA is history. The ANC has signed a deal with the Saudi's to invest in agriculture. Nobody will invest in a BEE, AA mess, that was Mbeki who was taking us the Zim route. Whatever happens, a huge surprise is waiting for all of us...... we are all bracing ourselves..... Zuma tells cosato one thing and Solomon smith barney something else, but in the end money talks. I would destroy cosasto as soon as possible , get water/elec to the poor Zuma only has 5years. If the ANC messes up again they might get only 49% in the next election.

Did you guys get the tender?

It is experience. Something entirely different and very real.

Please expound on the difference between a PDI and a HDSA?

PDI - Potentially Defective Individual

HDSA - Highly Defective South African

I couldn't help myself! :D

The law hasn't changed, as far as I know - only the perception of things. SASOL would rather take black (man/woman) to a white woman because it just sounds better. I reckon it's just for their PR. I could be wrong though.

Though - legally, it is still very much like before.

On topic,

In the case of OLM, let's see, they spent money on skills development, enterprise development, social investment and preferential procurement.

This means that they invested in the skills development of black people in the organisation, they spent money developing black enterprises, they put money into projects that would help black people, and they bought from black companies.

Yet, Sipho the wise, insists that they have done nothing towards contributing to South Africa

I see BEE is still a topic that pisses a LOT of people off, on both sides.
And, it's a failure in BEE that there is a "both sides".
