AC/DC Converter - Where to buy??

Hi.
I bought myself a 1TB external hard drive from the US.

Unfortunately, it comes with a 110V plug.

The output on the plug is 12V, 1.5A, 18W max.

Does anyone know an electronic shop in Pretoria that I could buy the equivalent 220V plug from?

I do not want to get a 220v->110v converter, because that just makes everything become very bulky.

Just make sure that the output voltage of the new adapter has the same polarity as that of the original adapter before connecting it to the hard drive!!!

Ellies supplies a 12V 1A adapter to many of the large chain stores but this would only supply a maximum power of 12W not 18W as required.

Yotch, not to disagree with the master, but "current of 12W" ?

I probably should have also added that it might be advisable to bring in the original adapter when looking for a replacement in case it is more sophisticated than one of the standard 'wall warts' such as one of those switching type adapters shown above. I also have a 110V Buffalo external hard drive which is powered off a 220V->110V transformer - in my case though the power supply is built into the drive.

Comes out as follows:
Philtron only has a 4A plug. The problem with that is it is too big and costs R250. Communica does not have stock of any adapter higher than 1A.

I did find a place in Joberg (Marlboro area) that has the plug for R140. It is called SJ Andrews.

But at the end of the day, I found a 2A adapter on ebay for less than R70 SHIPPED to south africa.
So yeh, I now have to wait for 2 weeks for it to arrive, but it is just scary to see how the cheapest locally is more than double the price of getting shipped from overseas!
