Botswana provided $70m (£47m) and South Africa $50m (£34m), with the rest coming from the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa.

Mr Biti made the remarks during a visit to London, where he is looking for further funding.

A unity government formed by rivals President Robert Mugabe and Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has appealed for billions of dollars from the West.

Mr Biti told the BBC on Thursday that Zimbabwe would actually need about $45bn (£30bn) to revive its economy over the next five years, according to estimates by the International Monetary Fund.

Western donors have called for real proof of power sharing and the restoration of law and order before they open their wallets.

Human Rights Watch said on Wednesday donors should withhold development aid until Zimbabwe halts a fresh wave of invasions of farms and frees opposition and human rights activists.
Mr Biti, a senior official with Mr Tsvangirai's Movement for Democratic Change (MDC), said there was a danger of the international community believing "Mugabe cannot be trusted and that he is taking the MDC for a ride", reported Reuters news agency.

My questions:
Why dear god are they securing loans for civil servants? Considering the corruption (Yes it's mainly Bobby boy but you'd be a fool to believe he was the only corrupt politician in Zims)

South Africa has provided $50 million credit to Zimbabwe, ****ing nuts considering South Africans need that money more.

The west is rightly holding back aid, (a bit like horse bolt stable but at least they're trying), they know this money will not filter down to the people who need it, at least that's my take on it.

Human Rights Watch says the same thing.

But of course African countries don't. While I see a minute amount of logic of helping out a neighbour (to stop influx of illegal immigrants etc) why the hell give this much credit? SA and other African countries have missed ANOTHER chance to get rid of Bobby boy....

Outrageous! In a land of a GDP of $300bn , a third gets given away to a country, which has already deeply devalued it's money.


My Taxes, gets stolen from me, only to give to tyrants and thieves.


I don't owe zimbabwe 1c, and i won't give them 1c.

They have to sort out their own problems, they have already caused us too much, in fact they should return the land to those who had to move, and reimburse these people too. And we deserve an apology too

Yip, I've said it before and I'll say it again, Zim continues to be a burden on SA as well as a destabilizing influence in the region. Much of the Rands lost value over the last year or 2 has been as a result of Zim, then we have Xenophobic violence, then we have Zimbabweans coming into our country seeking jobs, hospitalization and further access to our infrastructure , infrastructure that is absent in Zim thanks to Bobs inept governance. Now hand outs? Bloody disgrace. The only thing we should be giving Zim is weapons for their revolution...

I'm betting not a very high interest rate... and come on do you really want to own Zims? :D It would be a cool 10th province though, maybe it could be a penal colony like Oz was back in the day. Prisoners work the land and build infrastructure...and then when they're done get stuck back in jail, until SA colonises Mozambique :D and then they start again :D
 
not that bad since we the tax payers are already supporting the majority of south africa; i mean its just zim extra on top of that :rolleyes:
 
It's R5,000,000,000 5 BILLION, this is R1000 from each south african tax payer. Not even mentioning all the other tens of billions SA has already given Mob Bob

Where do you get 5 Billion? $50m x 10 = R500m.

Is there another source that states 5 Billion? If so I say mad bob should just ****.
