I am thinking of buying a 24" LCD monitor, or maybe a 23" LCD monitor, I want to use that monitor to watch TV, dvd's and for everyday home computer use. Do you think it's worth it?

It is worth it. I have a setup in the lounge with a Samsung 2232GW screen, connected to a notebook (as a music player) and a PVR/DVD player. Works like a charm! :)

I have the Samsung 2494HS. And yes, it is worth it. Watch a lot of DVD's on it. And use it for browsing and gaming. Actually considered buying a second one to mount on the bedroom wall instead of a TV.

Depends.
A bit small if you are planning on putting it in the lounge. Whats your viewing distance?

I use a 42" for a PC monitor, how you're gonna use a 23" in a lounge is beyond me. :D

rather get a cheaper-brand 32" TV.

you don't need a PC Monitor's Quality from that far away, especially if you won't even be able to tell the difference.

Edit: Oh, I read you're going to use it for your PC as well

I'd do this:
Keep your current monitor for PC work, and buy the cheapish 32" and set up a dual monitor - that way you can watch TV on the big one, work at good quality resolution on the small one, or both at the same time!

I live in a small bachelor flat, so the viewing distance is not long at all, maybe about 3m or so. I basically want to buy a new pc, a media center pc, whereby i can use that pc as a normal pc, and also use it as a media ceter or as a home theater system. So far the biggest lcd monitor available on the market is a 24", but it's too expensive so i'll settle for a 23". I don't really want to buy a TV, a normal home theater system AND have a computer, I just want one thing (media center pc) whereby I can do everything on it.

I understand what you want, as this is the same setup I have - One Mega System instead of two/three smaller ones...

Unless you have R8900 for a FullHD 42", you gonna have to choose either between a 32" with a crap resolution, or a smaller monitor with a good resolution.

it depends on how much PC work you going to do VS how much game playing, and movie/series watching.

If it were me i'd just save and get the 42", but I guess you could just buy the 23" now - will still be good (as you say you stay in a flat)

but, having said all that, why not keep your current monitor, get a 32" and put the pc close to the TV? it's much bigger for when you wanna watch tv/movies/series - and if you need to work use the smaller screen you have now...? A Dual screen setup is quite nice.
