The pirated copies of Windows 7 that are circulating in bitorrent tracking sites have Trojan in them.

“Just a warning for anyone downloading the new RC builds of windows 7. Quiet a lot of the downloads have a trojan inbedded in the setup EXE. The Setup EXE is actually a container, it appears to be a self-extracting EXE. There are 2 files inside, Setup.exe and codec.exe,” said a user in Neowin.net’s forum.

The codec.exe is identified as a Trojan by the user’s antivirus software.

Why not just download it from MS local servers?

As per post, http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showpost.php?p=2760892&postcount=44

Direct download links:

x86 (32 bit):
Code:

x64 (64 bit):
Code:
http://wb.dlservice.microsoft.com/dl/download/release/windows7/e/b/5/eb58e76e-17fa-409b-855f-11fbe84d1c93/7100.0.090421-1700_x64fre_client_en-us_retail_ultimate-grc1culxfrer_en_dvd.iso

From what I've read, if you're on local cap, you can copy paste that into your address bar and it'll download?

Works with local only bandwidth.

Gary copy those links provided and add new in orbit man, it works 100%

Would not advise downloading a 3gb file with anything other than a download manager.

If you downloaded the rc from the newshost nzb then it appears you will have the trojan copy. I tried the md5 checksum with my copy and it seems i have the trojan version.

aaarg

Any ideas about fixing it without downloading a new version?

Thanx for the heads up was that 64 or 32 bit?

Screw it i am going download the microsoft version rather, deleting the other one now.

I got the official one from the MS website, thanks! I can help anyone in the Southern Joburg region.

32bit

But they came out at exactly the same time so i'm assuming both would be infected.

Eish it sucks, i guess i'll have to get a copy from ms aswell.

LMAO, why would anyone download a leaked version when Microsoft stated they'll be releasing it the 5th?

Well... that teaches you to not to trust everything released on the net. :shakes head:

Because this leaked about 3 weeks before that date. In any case, the trojan was NOT on the "official" leak (easy to find if you follow the uploaders of previous clean leaks) but on some copies of the leak that were put on torrents for this purpose.

So it wasn't really the leak that contained a trojan, just a modified version of it.
