I'm looking to upgrade my pc and received the ffg quote from a supplier:

C2Q 2.3GHz 4MB Cache CPU- Intel G31 Motherboard
4 GB DDR 800 ram, 500GB S-ATA HDD
Multi DVD RW
GForce 9600GT PCI-E 19" LCD
104 ps/2 keyboard, optical mouse
onboard soundcard
1 Gbps NIC
MIDI Tower

NO WINDOWS!!!

R 8 811, 40

What do u guys think

sounds a bit much, but then again i dunno wot a 9600gt is worth

I'd say you are being taken for a ride.

You can get the same spec for R4250 minus the 9600GT which I think is about R1400 or less now.
So total price is about R5650, more than R3k cheaper than your quote.

http://www.zones.co.za/ have a look and do the math.

thanks guys really appreciate the feedback..i'm not too clued up on hardware and prices to ur input is apprecaited

MB - 400
Cpu (+/-2100)
4 gigs ram (500)
320g hard drive (500)
dvd writer (250)
case/power 460w (400)
Geforce 9800gt 1 gig (2400)
22'' lcd screen (1900)

yup really taken you for a ride, not only is this cheaper. you get a 9800gt 1 gig plus a 22'' lcd screen. 9800gt is way better than a 9600gt, by far.

That price looks about right.

Do you actually mean from supplier or dealer? If the later then yes.

Silkman can you give a breakdown of the quote so we can see what is so overpriced in that quote. That is an unreasonable quote.

who is this quotation from dude? can u forward the suppliers details pls

be careful to not compare dealer pricing (which is what most of you seem used to) with retail pricing (which is obviously what this client should have been, and was, quoted).

wHiTe*LiGhTnInG mentioned that 4GB of RAM should be R500. I challenge you to find any REPUTABLE retailer selling 4GB of RAM for R500. (That's just one example taken out of the post).

and if he is talking about getting it from a distributor, at wholesale pricing, then the fact that he's able to do so - while having little knowledge about hardware - leads me to believe that that distributor isn't too concerned with who they sell to, something that should be pretty high on their priority list.

Please note that I have no idea who quoted this guy, and therefore have no affiliation to him/her/it/them :)

Looks like supplier pricing to me.

Dealers are retailers. ;)

Dealers buy from suppliers.

Stupid comparing supplier and dealer/retail prices, yeah.

thanks Postman, was referring to dealer pricing being the pricing that dealers get (from their suppliers), as opposed to the pricing that consumers get (retail pricing obviously)

but if we're gonna be more concerned with syntax here than actual content, we can pick at eachothers posts all day :)

A supplier wouldn't have such a vague quote on components + it would be exlc. VAT. Must be a dealer.
