A MAN says he was was beaten to a pulp by a gang of more than 20 children - some as young as eight - because he had no cigarettes to give them.

Heavily bruised and suffering a fractured eye socket, broken jaw and shattered teeth, Glenn Lambourn was still shaken when talking to the Northern Territory News about the vicious attack.

"I thought I was going to die," he said. "They just kept smashing me over the head - I was on all fours and they surrounded me and kept laying the boot in flat out.

"They just did not stop - I felt my teeth go.

"All I could do was try and run but I kept falling."

Mr Lambourn, 35, said he was walking to catch a cab after drinking with friends at the Palmerston Tavern in Palmerston CBD when the attack happened on Sunday.

He said the children - all of Aboriginal appearance and believed to be aged between eight and 14-years-old - approached him on their bikes near a skate park and asked for a cigarette.

In a lengthy attack he said he was bashed with a lump of wood, had a bike smashed in his face and was repeatedly kicked in the head.

He said he will undergo surgery to his face where steel plates will be inserted to repair the fractures later this week.

He has urged anyone who witnessed the assault to call police.

Not all the kids thou ! Let's not generalize ! What is fair is fair. There are lots of youngster all over the world who will not condone such behaviour. On the other hand,moral degeneration seem to be a problem. I am sure, tv and game console violence play a role too. No playstation for my kids :D

People are too quick to blame tv, games, music etc, while they are factors the biggest problem is lack of discipline and lack of respect.

People are way too scared to discipline their kids in case they get classed as abusive, etc etc.

In my day if you gave an adult a bit of cheek they'd clip you round the ear. You can't do that anymore (Understandable because some people take it too far).

I agree with you Retro - If a kid isn't tought what is right and wrong he/she will do as they please :mad:
If a kid is brought up correctly no computer game will turn them into a menace.

There are many ways to discipline children many of which don't include and form of violence e.g. Make em work :D
 
i would have just grabbed one of the little sods and broken there jaws, you just need to show them that you aren't afraid to beat the crap out of them.

Don't talk *** those kids can't afford pc games DON't blame games blame their grand mother molesting them every night.

Sheesh dude chill he was talking in general not in that specific case. And yes the reliance of parents in general to allow games consoles to "babysit" their kids is a factor much as I am loathe to admit it. Even I am guilty now and again plonking my son in front of the telly/games console so I can get stuff done. Howevr there are one shed load of parents that give the telly/games console a full time job of babysitting. I hate when people blame music, tv etc, but it deffo plays a part. In fact there's loads of factors which contribute to moral degeneration, not one particular thing. However discipline and respect IMO are the two biggest contributing factors

Your blame the gran statement is a bit over my head as I don't see where you got that from :rolleyes:
 
I think kids get influenced by a thing called peer pressure and influenced mostly by other kids. NO one seems to notice this but you spend most of your child you surrounded by other neglected hoodlums without a proper upbringing voiding the values your parents taught you.
 
I don't doubt peer pressure is also a factor, nor the influence of other kids, however it's all down to parenting skills etc as well if your parents instill certain values in you, you are more inclined to use those in your life, we all go through rebellious stages, hell even I did, and I even respect the discipline I received although at the time I didn't.
