Just seen in the back of the latest incredible connection pamphlet that they are giving away HD PVR with with a crap phone for R135pm x 24 (+ once of R202.00 connection fee). That works out to a total of R3240. Now to buy a HD PVR from Makro will cost R3999. Is there anywhere that sells it for cheaper than R3240?

Are there any hidden catches with this contract? ie. would it go up after 12 months or anything funny like that?

I saw it too...VC are always keen to sign up new contract customers. It looks legit to me...They are clearly hoping you'll actually use the contract with the phone and make them cash that way...

Could they stop me from signing up if I already have a contract with them?

I think when they say it has to be a new contract, they mean that you cannot do it as an upgrade...

Although, if you speak to someone knowledgeable at IC (good luck with that) then they will be able to tell you that they can adjust any upgrade deals to make them new contract deals instead...Usually a 1 or 200 rand difference..

If I want this + dual view what will I need and how much will it cost?

You will need a 1110 decoder for the extraview option (which will give you dual view). 1110 decoder is R499 and with a HD PVR its an extra R50 a month on top of the DSTV subscription (for HD functionality and extraview).

Our installation cost us R1600...they supplied everything, multiswitch...dual LNB etc. So total you looking at for everything is R1600(install) + R3299 (HD PVR) + R499(1110 decoder). Then the monthly sub, which works out to about R520 a month.

When things like these happen, sometimes it means the HD PVR might be around R3k in the next year or so. Obviously you'll also use the phone and that's more money for them.

I actually planning on just throwing away the SIM and giving the phone to my MIL as a birthday present. It's sounding like a win all round at the moment.

Then terms and conditions apply.

Right, I took the dive and now have an HD-PVR in my boot. I want to know though, with XtraView does it HAVE to be a 1110 decoder to make it work?
