Alternatively just look up MP's expenses in Google, you're bound to find a news site or two that may back my opinion up :D
 
I must say i agree with you, the only difference is most of the time in the UK their are repercussions when government officials are corrupt or abuse their power.

Well.... look at it from another view,

UK politicians are Squeeky clean when they are elected - and then get busted and thrown out of politics

SA Politics just bypasses the squeeky clean part - you need to have a criminal record before hand, it saves the administrative time of doing Criminal records checks.
 
New labour was supposed bring "progressive" hope and change like the anc here. Blair was the darling of the left like mugabe and madiba but he "changed" too it seems
 
Seems they have moved on from the sex scandals, which started to make headlines back in the 60's.
Must have been over 100 of their officials that got sacked over that.

In the grand scheme of things yup... however there are a few people who escape with everything in tact...I'm putting ÂŁ25 on the Conservatives winning the next election...

Been saying it for years. If you think South Africa is unique in having a few corrupt politicians it says more about your lack of life and travel experience that our politics.

The fact that there was so much fuss made about some kick backs in this country amazes me. There's corruption in practically any modern political system. The only difference is that the corruption in this country is so unsophisticated and small scale compared to western countries that it's child's play when you compare.
 
The only reason local politicians seem to be more corrupt than our first world counterparts, is that the first world nations know how to cover their tracks extremely well. The repercussions of being caught are also much higher overseas than here in SA.
The politicians in the UK are probably more corrupt than Jacob Zuma... just 10x smarter.

With one major major difference... if a politician had even been accused of rape even if they had been acquitted no way in a kazillion years would they ever reach the political heights of Zuma. Plus the justice system in the UK is a bit harder to control :D

Lived in the UK long enough to start becoming annoyed at corruption in their cabinet. The whole Blunkett visa scandal was just a nail in the coffin for him as millions of Brits where already then peeved at mass immigration of semi-skilled labourers. Its difficult to see the consequences of a failed immigration policy walking around Oxford, Central London or even Reading, but venture a little south of London or West Midlands to Manchester or Birmingham and it becomes very clear they slipped up.

I think you got your sums wrong there :D

In SA the whole ANC bunch are corrupt and rally together to protect their fellow scumbags from the justice system, which unlike the UK has lost its independence in SA.

The UK politician is stupid! , I dont think there is a politician on this great planet that doesnt rank above 50's points on the IQ test but lets not confuse 'A piece of legislation that was exploited' with 'Unlawful Enrichment'. The UK politicians exploited the system, but the majority of it was not illegal - just unethical.

The newspapers call it a scandal, but they are there to sell numbers.

The entire political system everywhere is broken and needs revising. It is sad that there people are our leaders and that if we made contact with other intelligent life they are the people that will represent the entire human species... We are all screwed.
 
I agree, british and SA politicians are corrupt, most of them at least. Only difference is that SA politicians have a very bad public relations strategy compared to the Brits, so we are now sitting in a situation whereby SA politicians are perceived as corrupt while the Brits (and the US) politicians are perceived as good.

Read somewhere that a Japanese school has a robot teacher now, which means robots will take over more and more of jobs traditionally performed by human beings, so we'll soon have a Matrix type of setup whereby robots control human beings, so I wouldn't be worried about politicians if I where you :).

I've been saying that for a while, a computer is the only thing that can be completely impartial, can't be tempted by money or sexy or power. Its single minded approach to its programming is perfect for politics. Think irobot and their 3 laws. Could work.
