View Full Version : IBurst to 2 computers.
Hi
Can anyone give me an idiots guide to connecting a second pc wirelessly to my existing computer so that they can share my Iburst internet connection. ie What hardware would I need etc.
Thanks

connection sharing on the pc with the modem, a wireless card in each with one of them configured in host-mode.
if youre in XP it should be pretty intuitive.

First off, wrong forum. try to post in the right place.
The windows help has an idiots guide (including animated pictures) to how to setup internet connection sharing. No extra hardware is needed (obviously besides having the 2 machines networked correctly).
Um, I thought the question was more about WiFi connecting the 2 PCs, not so much iBurst or ICS.
Although the WiFi forum is a good place to go look for the skinny on AP type equipment.

The title is "IBurst to 2 computers." so how you got Wifi is beyond me.
and ant did say
share my Iburst internet connection
Which implies some sort of ICS, does it not?
...connecting a second pc wirelessly to my existing computer...Iz wot I'm talkin bout... ;)
Anyway we will not know until Ant5 clarifies :)

aaahhh, right. sorry then :P
Sorry if this is in the wrong place or whatever.
Let me explain. I have a computer which has an Iburst terminal connected and works fine. All I want to do now is connect my wife's computer to mine so we can share the connection without having to unplug and move the terminal to her study. I have no clue about networking but I  think the post about needing 2 wireless network cards sounds like it will sort me out. I am on XP so hopefully the ICS wizard will help this idiot out. Will only be able to know once I have the cards and go thru it. Thanks to those who tried to help anyway....

What u need is to but 2 additional wireless cards, set up the one with the iburst connection to share the internet connection. Then plug the wireless cards into the pc's and follow the setup wizzard. :)
thanks firefli.
I see some wireless network cards called SMC 2.4GHz 54Mbps Wireless USB adapter. Is this the sort of thing I need? Apologies, but most of this is greek to me...
ant5, how far apart are these 2 PCs, and do they have network cards (NICs) in them or built-into the moboards?
What am I thinking - if you have the NICs & PCs are close enough to each other, first get ICS going with a simple ethernet cable (you would need a CAT5 cross-over cable if you don't have a switch - basically available at any PC shop).
If you need them connected wirelessly then that's along the lines FireFly is advising you.
thanks ic,
i'd prefer to go the wireless route. the 2 pc's are about 15 meters apart but separated by a couple of walls. It would be quite awkward to run a cable between them, hence my wireless idea. I have no hardware at all, that's why i asked if these SMC cards are what i need.
Yep, then you are definitely on the right track with a WiFi setup.
