How accurate is the coverage maps on www.iburst.co.za

One of my clients tried iBurst at home and although he lives in a purple area (Parkhaven East just East of JHB int Airport) his signal goes still 100% - 0 % if he drives a few Km to him mother in law, it works quite good there made a 17 Min call using Skype to Portugal.

Surely you can not pay every client a site visit to test their signal.
 
AFAIK those maps are based on topographical differences extending out from the base-stations, not actual signal tests at each point within the base-station's advertised range.
 
What are you ? downloading games MP3's or actually using the net for business, stop judging other people.

Not funny - my Skype is still v low qual due 2 latency still being higher than a junkie, packet loss also v high despite 80%..100% signal strength - all ATM - could completely disappear in 5 seconds.

Dave what base-station(s) is your UT talking to?
 
ic i think this may be the crux of the matter. Durban cbd or maybe its glen ridge. Web site says that Glen ridge is work in progress but i have my suspicion its live.

How does that advert go, will be seeing more vaalies in Durban.
 
ic despite your 80-100% signal what does your frame error rate show?? At home i have(had) no connection as i am 15kms and three ridge lines away from the any tower( did not expect to b able to connect at home got iburst for work). But i build myself a reflector thingy and can just catch a few wiffs of signal. 5-10-20%. I can get 64-128k out of it but it bounces around a lot. What i have noticed is occasionally the signal goes up to 80-100 but so does the fer, ie i am locking onto some interference that then kills any download to 0. After a few sec that signal gets dropped and the proper signal comes back at 10-20% and i start downloading again.
 
Dave, before 2004-12-24 my connection was ok, then the unresponsiveness problem started, after LoneGunman posted about the background ping discovery things were ok - the connection was usable again.

Then on 2005-01-14 everything went absolutely haywire with signal constantly weaker than it had been up to the 13th, also speed gone, huge increase in packets being lost, constant disconnect - and it was a problem at the base-station - I did not change anything and I was told that Emil could not fix the problem on his own that the Japanese had been called in to fix it.

I strongly suspect that this problem at the base-stations is in fact another form of the Disco Light thing - signal strength symptoms are related.
 
Absolutely. I think that whatever is broke on the base station means that even though your utd may claim a good signal strength, a lot of that signal is noise and hence your problem. It is just so wierd that wbs dont just say the xyz is broken on the abc. Japs are flying part out on X date and will be fixed by W. Then we all know where we stand.
 
I had intended to mention that I have no idea what the current Frame Error Rate is since UTD is ethernet connected & I don't feel like switching back to USB.

This problem is extremely variable - I would have to sit & stare @ FER in the iBurst systray app for 24 hours before getting an idea of where it's @. I would be extremely surprised if FER was the same as back in November ~7.xxx, I fully expect it to be quite high ATM.
