I am still trying to get GPRS activated, thats another story as Vodacom blames AutoPage and visa versa. But whilst Complaining to the VoaOrk, when informed for the 5th time that it is an Autopage problem and that Vodacom is only a carrier, he ventured that in ~July Vodacom would do away with the service providers and could then resolve the issue without me having to call them both.

I don't know what it all entails, but it is an interesting tidbit of information, and well overdue in my opinion. Anything that stops the "buck passing" is too the benefit of the subscriber, and maybe the prices will come down by eliminating the middleman.

Cheers
Chris

That's one thing about using prepaid. I phoned 111 and asked them to activate it. It took 3 minutes. No faxes, signatures, id or forms.

A friend of mine on Vodacom is with Autopage and he had no hassles getting gprs activated.

Well, interesting indeed. My sources tell me that Autopage turned down Vodacom's initial offer, but after hardball tactics from Vodacom agreed to the offer - but only Feb 2006 (this is unconfirmed - call it hearsay).

Oh, and don't expect the prices to drop. That would be so un-South African...

I had it activated long ago, but have subsequently ungraded my phone. I called Vodacom to send me the settings and was told that GPRS was not active.

I called Autopage and they confirmed that they had deactivated it but couldn't say why. I asked that it be re activated, they said OK 24hours.

I call Vodacom, still not active.

I call Autopage, It was activated on the 14th of Jan, I call Vodacom, not activated, call Autopage demand a technical or management person.
"Yes sir it was activated but only on one side". At this point I perform the "Dead Parrot Sketch" substituting "Cell Phone" for "Norwegian Blue".

"Yes Sir, It will be active within the hour and we will SMS confirmation so that you can call Vodacom again."

I await the sms as I type.

I've had endless hassles during my stint with Autopage. They messed up my cellphone contract cancellation 3 months in a row (after acknowledgement of faxes). Won't go near them ever again.

Hi All,

Feedback. Autopage did not contact me so I PM'd Voadacom3G as requested.
A Vodacom tech called me and we had a great chat, one on one, open and honest. No lies, no promises just the facts, and for the first time ever, in all of my dealings with Telecoms companies or ISP's, I have confidence the the problem will be solved and solved properly.

Thanks V3G and the tech who called - Set the standard, let the world catch up.

Cheers, and thanks again.

I wish they would do away with rubbish service providers, they are nothing but trouble. I have been double debited, overcharged and under serviced more times than I would like to admit. When I was on prepaid things ran so smoothly. If there was ever a mistake it was rectified telephonically within seconds.

BTW: Nashua Mobile orcs still dont know about the new pricing structures.

Off topic... but can anyone perhaps explain to me how to set up my Nokia N-Gage for POP3? The setup file on the MTN website doesn't work. I've called MTN lots of times, but the more I try to explain to the previously disadvantaged person that I have a POP3 capable phone; the more they try to explain to me how to send email via sms. I usually end up just hanging up after a few minutes. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hmm, Even Willing to do MTNs Work  When WBS, Sentech & Telkom won't even do their own.

Yip, I have to compliment vodacom3g, he's making a very valuable contribution to these boards. It seems like he's backing up all his talk with action.

vodacom3g, I there are more people like you at vodacom, I might even consider making use of their services again.

Autopage now totally incompetent

The saga of having GPRS activated by Autopage continues to go from bad to worse. They have now bared my phone  I Kidd you not.

Vodacom have been great, arguing with Autopage and calling me every day with an up date. Autopage on the other hand have not returned a single call.

On Vodacom advise I called them again yesterday afternoon and they said that they had found the problem and would have it active within two hours.
They promised again to call back and confirm activation, still nothing. Then this morning I try to make a call and get a message to say the account is suspended

I call Autopage who can find no reason for suspension and transfer me to a supervisor.

It transpires that in order to activate the service they had to reinstate a secondary Sim card, that I had reported stolen and had barred 2003. The Sim card was replaced and all has been well for two years then out of the blue they notice that the old Sim had been reactivated so they barred my main Sim and both secondary Sim's "for my protection".

Many apologies later "it will be active within the hour sir, and I will call you back."

Of course they haven't and so I now have no data or voice access on my account and to top it all I am on NSRI duty this week with no means of being informed by the Port Captain of vessels in distress.

Is it possible to transfer to Vodacom and keep the number? If so I will do it today.

Cheers
Chris

Number portability is on it's way, but not very soon.

All I can suggest is you get a pre-paid SIM in the mean-time, just to be available for the weekend. Crazy, I know, but at least you can make and receive calls.

Will follow up again to see what we can do with Autopage.

Not a plug, but Vodacom call desk can access VSP (Vodacom Service Provider) so, at least, if you do have a problem, you should come right at one number.

Thanks vodacom3g, it was reactivated and some one did call back, probably thanks to your intervention, and according to the vodacom support desk GPRS is active. :D :)

Now all I have to do is set it up.

Cheers
Chris
