Perhaps this forum has matured enough, and gained sufficient status in the .za domain that we should consider some form of annual awards?

The thought was prompted by the excellent service that Vodacom3G has been providing, on this forum, over the past few weeks. I feel that it is time that we start to recognise such service and as a result encourage others to follow suite.

I propose Technical Excellence, Service excellence etc. that companies may display on their web page, ala cNet News, and possibly awards to the best contributers or best Broadband news coverage.

It could be adjudicated by the moderators or perhaps even a general vote.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Caroper

Excellent idea! I have played around with the idea previously but has been slack to introduce it. I agree Vodacom should get recognition for their customer service here, and I also thought of a ‘broadband journalist of the year’.

Any ideas and feedback will be most welcome.

Regards,

RPM

How bout we have a 'Worst Isp Award' to go with it.. :)
btw brilliant idea there caroper!

Great idea!

When we give Telkom their award for worst telco in the country, we give them thin air. If they complain that there is nothing (note that we pretend to give them something) we explain that just like Telkom's service, it is the thought that counts...

Just kidding. The awards idea is a good one.

Cheers

Great idea! A special forum to handle awards, with a specified time frame for proposals, followed by a reasonable time to vote (polls :D).

Where do I go to vote? ;)

I like the idea.

I propose that we do not give out a "best broadband product" award until such time as a service is released that lives up to international standards.

A few more categories I can think of :
Best South African Website
Best Hosting Company (SA/International)
Best Customer Service (does not necessarily have to be IT related)

Forumites that have more than 40 posts (just made that up) could suggest nominees for each category.

iBurst and the poll

Its definitely a great idea. Interestingly in one of the recent news articles iBurst has already used myadsl's recognition as a marketing ploy.

“iBurst has also been voted the best wireless broadband option in a vote carried out by users on the local Web site www.myadsl.co.za .”

The article is here: http://www.mybroadband.co.za/nephp/?m=show&id=73

Unfortunately their statement isn't exactly accurate since in that poll the ADSL 384 package pipped them at the post. Also if I were WBS I would try to keep potential clients as far away as possible from this forum given their current bad reputation here.

Correction: At the time when the article came out the ADSL 384 package was in the lead. However the poll was already off the front page. This means that people can still cast votes after the poll has 'ended' which definitely shouldn't be allowed. It could allow companies to mess with the polls and make them look better than what they are. Polls should definitely be closed after they're off the front page in my opinion.
