4mb->3mb Downgrade because of line issues

Hi Guys, I've recently been experiencing lank issues with my adsl line. Dropped connections etc. Then it just stopped syncing completely. Called telkom, the only way they could get it to sync again was to drop my speed to 2912. I assume this is as a result of the SNR decreasing or the Attenuation increasing. My question is, how is it that I've been enjoying full 4mb for the better part of 3-4 years now, but all of a sudden i've got line problems. Could it be because of increased adsl users in my area?

I had the same problem a while ago. I had being enjoying 4mb ADSL for about 2 years, then suddenly my line just kept dropping.

The only thing Telkom was willing to do the whole time was drop my line speed. After much complaining though, eventually the techie decided to have a look around, and the low SNR ratios was actually caused by some corroded wiring as well as a 'Box' which was corroded on my nearest telephone poll.

After sorting that out, my SNR ratios have been very good and I haven't had issues since.
So try get Telkom to check it out ;)
 
Yes it could be but then they must be feeding of the same cable/s in your DP or SDC area. Simplistically a cable runs from the MDF in the exchange to a SDC to a DP to the jack at your premises.

Also could be cable deterioration in your area caused by ageing or excessive joints to repair cable breaks/faults or lack of maintenance on cable routes (dry joints), etc...
