I have been terribly busy the last while and have not posted in ages.

just to let you all know i am now happily using iburst and have said goodbuy to sentech and would reccomend the rest of you tell them to shove there contracts.

oh a snipit of inside news [unverivied and unconfirmed] they have been looking for money 1 or 2 billion to put up more towers to get cpl hundred thousand subscribers so far everyone has turned them down ...

well lets see what iburst does for me ... so far so good

Well

If Sentech & iburst can float themselves on the JSE,I am keen to

invest my piggybank :)

Welcome back Loosecannon, I was wondering what happened to you.

Good luck with iBurst, I hope it doesn't go the same way as Sentech.

Sentech indeed got their +1 Billion loan.
The money will be available to them on 1 April.

Sentech should use that money to lay SAT-4 ... they would make much more money that way.

A SAT 4 type submarine cable would cost many many times more than 1 Billion :)
Even Telskum was not prepared to even try and finance SAT 3 on their own.

Doesnt need to be submarine. R1 Billion would go a very long way to paying for a trans-africa land cable. Africa is +- 10 km from Spain.

hArth ..... Hmmmm .... I think not!
methinks that the cable will stay in place for only a few hours.... at most :)

i think perhaps it would be cheaper to hire my gran, she's cheap, and with proper equipment (bakkie or truck with a couple of hundred tapes) she could transfer terrabytes per hour!

Her rate is around R1500 per hour excluding travel costs and equipment (she won't charge you VAT, she's sly that way)

So 1 billion rand could very well be well worth investing in www.mygranwilldrivearoundforbandwidth.com

Think about it... perhaps even outpreform the SAT-3 cable that way....

and she could do international traffic as well, she'll just stuff her bra with the tapes... no customs no worry

If those breasts are saggy, she'll need a huge bra, so she could definately carry a few extra gigs of data.
