This is directed more at Vodacom3G seen as he is on this forum
With my total happiness with 3G, I convinced a business colleague to get into his car and drive to a vodashop to sign up, in durban. I was horrified when he phoned me back and told me the sales person told him to come back in 6 weeks. Was the vodashop in the pavillion, but he cannot remember the chaps name.
Also told me that only the Pavillion and Gateway shopping centres have 3G coverage in the entire durban area.... can this be confirmed?
Thanks

Did he say why he should wait for 6 weeks? Stock, Coverage?
Obviously it's another one of those (now famous) Vodashop comments. :) The shops have more than enough stock.
I'll come back to you on Natal coverage, should be on the 4me site but think about it this way: A total of 500 sites are up country-wide, each serving multiple cells. Statistically there must be many more than 2 in Durbs!
most of durban's suburbs are NOT covered. actually i went to the same pavilion branh and they told me that they dont have 3g stock. i actually wanted the prepaid sim more than the data card. when will the prepaid 3g sim be out in durbs?

Buy any Vodacom starterpack, phone the helpdesk or register and activate it yourself on the Vodacom site. All you need to do is "Activate GPRS" then "Activate GPRS for internet"

As already posted any pre-paid SIM wil work if activated AND it's in a 3G device, currently the motorola E1000 or the data card.
You can check your coverage here: http://www.vodacom.co.za/packages/3g/coverage_map.aspx

Not sure if it is just me, or perhaps my 3G connection but that coverage site sucks. Have not been able to get anything out of it. Takes forever to reload and just is aweful, unless I am missing the plot somewhere....

For interest sake I had very limited 3G access while in Durban this weekend. Limited as in I had connection at the airport and spent the rest of my time using GPRS. I have similiar issues in the Sandton area which is supposed to me a major connection point. I am impressed with 3G and want to use it bit since I am moving to Durban need to know when the limited coverage will actually become active ?

The list of sites being rolled out in Durban/Natal cannot be published for competitive reasons, but I can quote the COO when I asked him about this earlier today: "Coverage [in Durban] will be increased ten fold in phase 2 of the rollout".
Phase 2 is already in full swing and will run for most of this year.

Thanks for the quick response. I expected that there would be a slow rollout and will be patient for a bit longer regarding this.

Hi
I agree with comments about the 3G map and friends of mine have also remarked that they find it slow, and thus would rather not use it.
Most likley a somewhat more powerful server is needed to run the map, perhaps Vodacom3G could look into that.
