Okay, I went to WBS yesterday, signed up for iBurst - even got to meet the MD, nice fella. Anyway...

It seems to be working, especially in the lost valley of Buccleuch that i stay in, except that every few minutes (anything from 5 to 2 hours) my connection slowly dies off and drops. I am running a ping every 60 seconds so i assume its not kicking me off due to invactivity but it must be my signal thats not happy.

Is there something that can graphically show my my signal strength while i move it around the house to try find the most suitable position?

adios,

Chronos.

The only signal strength app available requires that you have the iBurst UTD attached via USB, not sure about the iBurst software for the UTC, I assume it uses the same software as the UTD.

In theory, you could attach a UTD to a laptop via USB, and with a long power cord/extension cable you could move around looking for this fabled "schweet spot".

Has anyone tried this? Do you need to install both UTD and UTC drivers on the laptop? Are they different? The installation disk has all the permutations and combinations of UTD/UTC/laptop/USB/lan on it.

I suggest uninstalling any pre-existing UTC drivers before attaching a UTD. I only mentioned this bcos Chronos didn't mention whether he had a UTD or a UTC.

Hi, its the Desktop model. (USB/Ethernet).

Another question i have in conjunction with this is that there is no indication of what the signal lights mean.

for example the "signal level" lights flap on and off continuously, then drop to 1, then climb to full and this goes on and on all the time.

Also theres the green, orange, red light that seems to change colors at whim too... :)

Chronos, if you've installed the iBurst s/w off the CD, it puts the documentation on your HDD, I have previously mentioned this somewhere in an old old old thread. Have a look in your HDD in the relevant iBurst folder.
