WiMax in South Africa

Morning all,

My first post on these forums.
I work in Libya and live in Somerset West.

Question : I am currently a very happy WiMax subscriber in Libya. When I leave will it be worthwhile to bring my hardware with me to SA ?

Is WiMax good in SA ? Which ISP would you suggest in the Somerset West area ?

WiMAX is unfortunately not yet as portable a we would like. Many of the manufacturers rushed to get their products to market before the standards were final and so the equipment may not work on other networks.

What brand of equipment to you use in Libya?

Additionally - there haven't been many WiMAX licenses issued yet in South Africa. Only Telkom and the Vodacom-iBurst partnership have legitimate licenses as far as I know. Vodacom-iBurst are still early in their rollout and I would be surprised if they cover Somerset-West. Telkom only puts WiMAX where they cant put up wired coverage - you'd have to phone them to find out.
