Hi friends,

I have this drive for more than 5 years now, basically it was an external drive with ac power that started to give me some crc errors with my info on, I decided today i will format to see if it helps. I had to make the decision to lose all 270GB of data .

After trying to do a full format , vista detects the drive as failing and asks to backup during the format, i ignored and eventually the drive disappeared until i removed the power and switched the pc back on.

I have downloaded and installed SeaTools, all tests failed. Using HDDScan i have provided a log on the S.M.A.R.T test.

Please advise

Kind Regards,

Its buggered. Take what you can off, and buy a new one....

Same here. Any HDD older than 3 or 4 years will start to get iffy. Nothing will last for ever.

Rather salvage what you can and buy a new one.

Appreciate the responses, not too worry about the info, its saved on the internet so one can download it again :D.

Think am gonna strip it and display it at work, "The Naked Drive" or something lol

Cheers

I have this computer with a 20Mb hard drive which is more than 20 years old and is still going strong. It was used on big caliber ammunition test ranges with high shock impacts for years and was transported in the back of panel vans to the ranges from Pretoria and back for thousands of kilometers on bad roads.

I've got an 8GB Maxtor and it's still running fine on Windows 98.
