Should Vuvuzela's be banned from the 2010 World Cup?

i cant believe that this is causing so much stir. Who cares, go to a soccer match, enjoy the noise, enjoy the beers and them come home with a hangover and broken ears but at least you enjoyed yourself. What next? should loud music be banned in night clubs because of the"noise"
 
I hate the flippen things, but feel that its inherently part of south african soccer, so it should stay, it creates a unique atmosphere at the games.

I was watching the confed cup last night. First time Ive seen a game with these vuvuzelas. They are horrible. It sounds like a honking horn or a swarm of bees. I can understand if they blow it when someone scores a goal, or when the match ends. But they start from kickoff and blow it NON STOP for 2 hours.

It sounds horrible. I actually put down the volume on the tv after a while... could barely hear the commentator. Can you imagine coming to the 2010 world cup... some huge match... maybe the final... and sitting next to one of these idiots blowing that thing for 2 hours. That would totally destroy the experience for me.

Ban them please. I dont care if its 'African'... its dumb.

Just because you've decided to tune in to a soccer match played in South Africa, the vuvuzela's suddenly have to be banned.

Why not moan 5 or 8 or 2 years ago? I can understand the international viewers complaining but just because you're showing up or watching footie in RSA doesn't mean you get to dictate whats banned and whats allowed.

It just doesn't work like that.

So if thousands of S.A fans took whoopi cushions to games it would be okay because it creates a unique atmosphere :o
 
Well it is a whoopi cushion, I mean c'mon, that should have been part of the parcel a long time ago!!!!

Post-WWII Britain had their wooden clappers but decided after several years that they really didn't add to the game or the atmosphere. We're just behind.

Admittedly I switched off halfway between the Brazil-Italy match because I couldn't stand the noise.
 
I don't believe they should be banned because those who matter don't have a problem with the noise. I personally find the noise a bit much, but not enough to put me off attending local games. The stadium atmosphere in general makes them a non-issue.

It is true that most of the local whiners have never attended a football game in the country. And worse still some are complaining from the luxury of their arm chairs (and don't even follow football).

Well a couple of years ago Loftus decided to ban these things from the stadium and I whole hartedly supported it. So I did moan about it a couple of years ago and will do so now again.

Rubbish. I've complained about vuvuzelas on this forum years ago and I'm sure others have too.
 
Ban, Ban, Ban!!!!! It is an annoyance! Just causing a hell of a noise! I will not watch soccer due to that!
 
How to deal with vuvuzela blowing morons....

Pretoria - A young man from Moreleta Park in Pretoria has allegedly been sjambokked for celebrating too loudly on a vuvuzela during Saturday's rugby festivities.

Eric du Plessis, 20, said the incident took place a few metres from his house, about an hour after the rugby World Cup final between the Springboks and England in France.

His chest and arm were still blue and painful on Tuesday, there was a faint stripe across his face and his lip was cut.

Du Plessis said he and his friend Ruaan van Zyl, 23, were walking down the street, shouting for joy, and blowing on their vuvuzelas, when they were accosted by two men lower down the street, and assaulted.

"The oom and a young man came out of the house and said we were making a racket and we were windgat. They said vuvuzelas were for soccer, not for rugby.

"The young guy hit Ruaan in the face with his fist. I tried to stop him, then the oom hit me with a sjambok, across the face, and on my arm and chest," Du Plessis said.

He and Van Zyl phoned another friend, Brentley Theron and his parents, to come and help them.

"The oom and the young man went into the house and next thing the tannie came around the corner of their house with a shotgun.

"We moved off. I filed a complaint at the Garsfontein police station."

I couldn't agree with you more. The atmosphere at stadium is just simply awesome.
 
You guys are complaining as if vuvuzelas were introduced at the beginning of the confed cup, jeez, where were you all this time? vuvuzelas have been around since the 90's, and NOW you complain?
