Hi, I have a friend (fairly wealthy) who started a singing :erm:

Anyways, he's got a laptop, with no sound-input jacks.

So: He wants a USB sound-card or something to connect his #guitar and #microphone to so he can make some amateur recordings, any advice?

What's the options? I'm clueless on hardware other than for gaming purposes :D

Appreciated.

does the laptop have firewire? firewire is the best option for low-latency recording on a laptop. A good entry level product is the Presonus firebox.
I wouldn't recommend usb - specially if he want to record guitar and use real-time effects etc.

I've found the products on Orangemusic.co.za, will advise him to contact them and ask.
