Best price on Acer Aspire One?

I urgently need a cheap laptop and was planning on getting an Acer Aspire One, with the HDD, not the SSD.

Expansys have them really cheap R2225, the problem is the 2 week wait; I need it by Tuesday next week latest.

Does anyone know another place that would have it at a decent price and have stock?

The cheapest I could find was Have2Have at R3575,89, however they would probably have to get it from their suppliers, plus I would prefer something cheaper.
 
I just got the Incredible Connection magazine, I see the smallest model (with the Linpus OS and a small SSD) goes for R1999, as they had it a while ago.

Be prepared for some "fun" with the Linpus ("Acerised" version of Linux), it takes a while getting used to... :)
 
Saw one yesterday at IC Menlyn going for R1999...

You could always max out the ram to 1.5GB and get an 8GB + 16GB expansion SD cards to make it a 32GB machine?

And load XP on it?
 
I've been looking on gumtree in the hopes of getting one cheap - guys are selling them there for more than new.
 
Out of interest - why is that one on expansys so cheap? The others are way more?

On an AAO? It sure does, as does increasing the ram. The 120gb mine came with is more than enough for me in a netbook. :)

Screen size? Even off the truck deals are quite cheap as well.

500GB on a netbook does sound quite ridiculous :).

I got a quote this morning from PC Zone for the Acer Aspire 120gb at R3499. I clearly asked to be quoted only if they have stock or can have it in 2-3 days.

I ended up buying the Lenovo S10e for R3799, with a 160gb Hdd and XP Home.

Not sure if I misunderstood the post, but mentioning voiding the warranty implies you are suggesting replacing the SDD with a HDD? If so, beware: the two models are physically different and many users have come unstuck trying to cram a notebook drive into the space designed originally only to take the SSD. The HDD version of the Acer is slightly deeper to accommodate the drive.
 
I bought an AA0 for the wife from IC for R2000.

Got a 30G ipod drive off ebay - R180 to my PO Box in a week from the States. R190 for 1GB notebook ram.

~1hr to open up, stick in the drive and ram. About the same to load WinXP and then WIN7 RC1.

Runs like a dream, and the wife is happy...

I should add that I love doing this sort of thing, even though I could just go out and buy her an S10...it's the geek in me:)
 
Fine, not as fast to startup as XP, but thats not an issue fro my wife. Otherwise looks and runs nicely.

Popped a 512M SD card into the SD slot as a readyboost cache.

If anyone's interested in trying Windows 7 RC1 on an SSD netbook, it only just fits on an 8GB SSD and runs veeerrrrryyy slowly. What I neglected to do before installing was to format the SSD to FAT32 rather than NTFS -- NTFS slows things down a lot on these small SSDs. That's if W7 will run on FAT32?
