OK, so I have an ASUS P5b-vm do motherboard, and a C2D processor. I need to enable VT, which requires a BIOS update. So I download the ASUS tool and it tells me that the BIOS is not ASUS. Fine so far. So I download afu236u, and the correct ROM, burn it to a CD and boot with Hiren. Then the app tells me that it does not run in DOS (After telling me that it MUST be run in DOS)!

So I download ME bootdisk, create CD, but when it boots it tells me that there is no Valid CDROM device selected!! There is some JMicro RAID bull**** that I have disabled, enabled, sworn at, kicked and insulted - but nothing wants to work!

Please help??

Update with a usb stick and ezflash in the bios, works for me,
the best way to update the Asus mobo bios.

+1

Thats what i did last week when I flashed my BIOS.
worked 100%

p.s Pray that you dont get loadshedding during your BIOS update :p

This motherboard is just a piece of useless crap! Every BIOS that I download tells me: ROM ID in the file is incompatible with with existing BIOS. So I typed in: BUT I GOT IT FROM YOUR ****ING STUPID WEB SITE.

nothing happened....

and i take it this motherboard is new, as far as when you got it..?

and not s/h, from maybe an oem machine..customised packard bell/dell/hp etc?

because, you know, we all put strings and things into the bios. and the bios update checks the strings to stop planks updating their motherboard with the wrong bios and killing it then sending it for rma.

so, 2 possible things here
1) you think you have a p5b-vm...but you dont, and the updater is doing its job
2) you HAVE a p5b-vm, but the strings were customised to prevent un-authorised bios updates, which would also explain why in post 1 above the asus tool said you dont have asus board.

start/run/msinfo32.exe
tell me what it says under
"system manufacturer" and
"system model"

oh, and stop swearing. it doesnt help

Thanks for the help! Werners advice got me thinking, and after resetting the BIOS a MECER screen came up :( It seems like they install their own BIOS and then you can't upgrade it.

Finally downloaded the engineers version of AFUDOS.exe and was able to force the update.... Then when I rebooted nothing happened, just a black screen. I was well pissed off at that point, thinking that I had just spent 9 hours only to BREAK my damn mobo. Luckily it came right on its own.

I hate Mecer even more now....

Edit: Sorry if the swearing offended anybody - they really were just ***s (asterisks :))

Hey Conrad

Did u get ur board from PC Int,
If so,
those boards r not original from asus, had 1 but dug a big hole in ground & burried long tym
ago,
Happy now, with AXIZ

Really? Not original? Is this why their pricing winds up being so good?

@lykin, I seem to recall mustek/mecer being mentioned somewhere in this thread.
